The restore, rebuild looks amazing. I really dig seeing the progress. Think you’ll be bringing it to the FG this year? I’d love to see it upclose.

@fourlow&go, hey what is this wire panel called? I want something similar to put behind my grill to protect the radiator since I removed the AC condenser.

I'd love to bring it to FG and show it off, unfortunately it's not my truck.

Typically called the grill, but you would probably be better going through a steel supplier and getting expanded mesh, it used to come in many flavors.

Cruiser porn

All new body rubber and seals

1915165

And some NOS jewelry

Many thanks to Kurt @cruiseroutfitters for having these parts available to Cruiser geeks like us!

But first, we need to fix a Dodge transmission... because...well... Dodge!

Since we're waiting for Dodge parts we tackled a few things on the 45. Wally whipped up some side steps

1919541

Front axle is done, except for tie rod ends

1919544

Battery tray is in. We'll be using an Olde Air heat/AC unit under the dash, so we are able to use the old heater location

1919548

And all the brake lines are in

1919549

Wally fabbed up an extension for the brake booster so the firewall remains stock, and we still update to dual circuit power. Win, win!

I like this part of a build, bolting stuff down for the last time. Hopefully.

Moving forward,

Jr.

You guys do amazing work,

The projects keep piling up so work on the 45 has been sporadic lately. The dash harness, column, switches and lights are in, along with the fuel tank. We're going to try and keep the factory vacuum shift for the tcase, but with the V8 little of the factory linkage will fit, more custom fab coming up!

The doors are all assembled and waiting to be hung

20190504_174307.jpg

The rollers are off and stockers with new sneaks are on. Really like the look of the truck now

With about another week of labor it should be rolling under its own power.

More later,
Jr.

With the wiring all installed it's time to build the false floor in the pocket to cover the computer

20190510_134027.jpg

I had to do it in two pieces because the door is smaller than the pocket, both pieces bolt in and interlock together

20190512_110816.jpg

We couldn't find a door with the bow hinges, so I made a bracket for a newer style door

20190512_110934.jpg

With some stair runner from the local box hardware store the pocket with hidden computer is complete

20190512_111502.jpg

Next up, high/low shifter.

.

Again, a factory shift lever bracket couldn't be sourced without spending too much money, so we made one from 1x3 box tube

20190529_113012.jpg

I cut off the end of the factory rod and welded on a piece to thread onto the pto cable (black part far left of the pic) Then made a bracket to hold the cable housing. Bolting this to the bracket under the dash was a pain, due to the tight space. But works great and is adjustable

20190529_112953.jpg

On the tcase side, I had to bring another tcase into the shop and make the bracket and linkage on the bench. There is literally no room to work on the truck. The shift arm had to be a double shear setup using a cable, so another shift arm was sacrificed to achieve this. With some creative bending and welding

20190529_113217.jpg

With a quick drilling a quarter inch cable end fits perfect

20190529_113305.jpg

The factory 4wd engagement switch is being used, but needed to be moved to the battery box because of the V8

20190529_113112.jpg

Then it's on to air conditioning, once again, a tight fit. The condenser is mounted to the factory rad support

20190514_184535.jpg

The reciever/drier is also mounted to the factory rad support via a homemade bracket

The compressor is really close to the frame, thankfully the Denso 10S17F compressor used in van applications is smaller in size

20190514_184559.jpg

Unfortunately I failed to realize before hand that the 4wd hi/low cable was in the way of the defrost duct in the heat/ ac unit. So that had to be cut off and moved to the side of the unit, thank goodness for JB WELD and die grinders

1559515218471-1601023691.jpg

Tomorrow I'll try to source some a/c fittings and hose locally, and with some luck my first from scratch a/c system will be working soon. Wish me luck!

Nostalgic AC is the place to source fittings and hose, a third the cost of others and great service. Just call though as the web site is clunky. Thanks to a friend who has the crimping tool it didn't take long to do the hoses. Routing them neatly and through the firewall was a different story

20190611_121145.jpg

With little room behind the dash, and not wanting to butcher a perfectly good dash, I attempted a bracket to go under it

20190612_164037.jpg

This little bugger took a lot of time, but was worth it in the end

20190618_110658.jpg

Trying to get the ducting to fit behind the switches proved to be an even greater challenge! I finally decided to tig some aluminum together and make a small duct for the driver side floor heat

20190619_121312.jpg

I'll have to do the same thing for the pass side as well since the duct has collapsed

20190619_121420.jpg

,

Two heater hoses, two A/C hoses and the sub harness for the computer fuse block all run through the firewall in a very small area

20190619_121454.jpg

The battery is in, with a custom hand forged hold down

20190619_121525.jpg

A custom intake pipe, painted to match is done

20190619_121547.jpg

And somehow Wally found two period correct washer nozzles, and made them work even!

20190619_121641.jpg

Mechanical gauges are installed to monitor the important stuff

20190618_110731.jpg

And yesterday we got to fire it up!!! Que the Bruce Willis dancing a jig on the Jumbotron!
Idles at 190°f just like it's supposed to do. The A/C system is charged and working perfectly. Lots of niggling stuff to do still, but a milestone has been reached and a test toast is on the horizon.
