Third front diff broken.

I had mine done by 4Wheelers Parts i nMesa, AZ. They did many of my friends trucks though they never did a Cruiser. They asked for an extra day so they could take it slow. They did a superjob and the mounting of the switches looks factory too.

The ARB switches look great but I wonder if it's possible to use the OEM 80 series diff lock switch with the ARB Lockers.

2700 is for front and rear, installed. Do you already have the rear diff lock on your 99?

I've got the factory e-locker on the rear...which works fine. So I just want a front locker eventually. I would probably do the install myself.

Thanks.

Yep. though I wanted the ability to lock one or the other selectively. With the OEM you can't lock the front by itself.

Couldn't the front ARB be installed to be used without the rear factory locker? That would be cool.

Why would you ever need to do this? I can't think of a situation where having the front locked but not the rear would be a real advantage.

If your rear air line was compromised you would overheat your compressor or not build enough pressure to keep the front locker engaged if you had to have the solenoid for the rear open as well as the front.

That is just one scenerio, I'm sure there are more.

Selectability is always a good thing...

You could replace the factory diff switch (if you have rear locker) with the one out of the 80 and then run the elocker for the rear and arb on the front switch. All you have to do is add a switch for the compressor. Not a big fan of non-factory switches.

You need to remove the ring gear from the carrier and install on the arb. Then re-install and set backlash again and check pinion preload etc etc.

More than a 1 banana job, but then there are some monkeys on the board that are better with banana's than others.

Yes, but it is also pretty easy to just unplug the rear solenoid.

If you use the OEM switch can you still use the ARB lockers in HIGH range?

Vehicle position on a slope where locking one axle or the other could slide you sideways. That rear locker luvs to slide ya. Lock front and traction control rear in these conditions. Tight turn....lock rear and TRAC front. :) You just have more options. J

OK, no experience with air lockers. I have the factory electric ones.

Thanks,

No TRAC on my 80. OK, I see where that could work if you had TRAC. Good call!

Thanks,

Ya, I like those in my 80. If the had them in the 100 I'd stick with them. Though it is a plus to have the stronger ARB's plus they lock and unlock instanly and I LOVE that.

Dealer remedy

Well,

The dealer installed an entire new front end to include a new 2005 assemply. You have to give Lexus the upper hand and an applause towards supporting their customers using their trucks as offorad vehicles.

Next step is installing Slee's rear bumper and ARB lockers. I am waiting for Slee's rock sliders to be available for my truck. When the stock hydrolic stuff goes south, I will simely disengage the ride height system and just go with the Olf man Emu suspensin and keep the truck at it's maxium ride height.

We're not cone dancing here, just tree dancing and the I usually do this in low with the ride height set to the max anyway. My wife taking the kids to school is embarrassed enough with the ARB bumper and winch up front anyway, so a few more inches in constant clearance should be acceptable.

She can always use the LS430 anyway.

Thanks guys. I have a 12 month warranty on the front end, so I will surely tell you if I destroy it again.

The dealer did this work under warranty. Got to love them. Awesome service. They washed all the mud off after the work was done.

AWESOME! AWESOME!

I've been well taken care of too at Precision Toyota. Despite my 100 being seriously modified before it's 1st birthday they've handled everything for me. Too bad I have only a few thousand miles to go on the 100K ext warranty.

Oh, and I'm sure your wife will change her mind once the LX is lifted and tricked out. That'll be major eye candy on the street! WAIT, MAYBE YOU WON'T WANT HER TO DRIVE IT THEN? :D :D

You should test out your new front-end in our upcoming trip:

(though I'll be in the 80 on this one)( )

Shotts: Are you using sway bar disconnects up front? Any idea how much more, if any, articulation one could get out of the IFS with disconnects?

You'll not gain any added travel with sway bar disco's. 7.5" is it. Though there's good news too:

GOOD NEWS: With a 2" lift and 33-inchers you'll flex almost identical to stock. Full travel is readily available.

BAD NEWS: With 2.75" (like mine) and 35-inchers you don't flex as easily because it's harder to twist the T-bar the extra amount. So, for ME to stuff the front all the way I need to be in a nasty spot.

MORE GOOD NEWS: Doron removed his front sway bacause he only uses his 100 for Expo trips. His front moves much better and flexes nearer to stock. I can't remove my front sway because I use this truck everywhere and drive it like a Miata. (My 80? They're both removed and I luv it!)

MORE BAD NEWS: To remove the front sway on a 100 you need to take out a T-bar.
