I have the Kimberley Kamper which sleeps two comfortably. You could sleep 3-4 putting two on the floor, but that gets tight with a lot of people in a tight space.

For more rugged expedition camping I have an ARB Simpson RTT

Since my daughter has a steady BF of two years, thinking of getting an Oztent to line up under the canopy so I can have a lot of space in in the Kamper rather than having 3 of us in there

If I go with the RTT, I would need another tent if more than two go.

With the Oztent, I could easily sleep two with Cots or three with sleeping bags or I could get the walls and front panel and sleep 4 cots easily with lots of room.

So I am thinking of replacing the ARB Simpson with an Oztent altogether. I know someone who has said he would buy my RTT

I could keep all 3, and use the RTT and Oztent together as well, but that's a lot of money in tents when I only camp and handful of times each year

Anyone gone from an RTT to an Oztent and have opinions on this?

Thanks

Ken

Number one...

Boyfriend should be sleeping in the truck...

Personally, having gotten rid of the RTT, and switching to the bigger tent has been so much more fun. Yes, it's a chore to set up, yes, it's heavier...but if inclimate weather happens, you're more than comfortable. I'm guessing, but you have the same trailer Brad had...why not set up the big room to sleep in if you need the space. Wouldn't it easily hold several cots?..or is it not as bug/critter proof?

I like having cool stuff with options and this is a pretty neat setup that can go up much faster than just about any tent. I can get a regular tent for much less $$

The full room to setup on the Kimberley takes about 30 minutes and there isn't any floor unless I add them. Then tear down takes about the same plus having to fold up the panels back into the bag.

I went to the Kimberley and RTT because it was just me. Now there is 3 and when the other daughter comes more. Wife only camps in the Hilton

I am looking at the Oztent because it would fit right up to my awning and sets up in 30 seconds and tears down in 30 seconds. Much faster than my RTT, but you then have to setup the bedding as well. You should also add 4 stakes after it is setup which adds a few seconds

Another reason I like the Oztent is I don't like sleeping on the ground and I could easily fit cots in here. There is the Jet tent and the Black wolf turbo which are quick setup dome tents that some are less $$, but after pouring over reviews the last month, I like the Oztent more and it would fit perfectly under my awning of the KK

You can see the setup and tear down in the link

You can use the Oztent by itself for the quick setup

(Below pics are from nulliifiers review on expo)

or add the side walls and front panel which adds 5-10 minutes to the setup

You can even further expand on it and connect a 2nd Oztent of any size to the setup and have a large multi room setup. I do like the options

Besides, there are trips I would not take the Kamper and that leaves me in camp once the RTT is setup

Don't get me wrong, I like the ARB RTT and may still keep it, just thinking if I get this that would be too many tents and too much money tied up in camping equipment. If I camped more that would be a different matter. This year I have only gotten away twice

I would just start off with the basic tent

I went ahead and ordered the RV4 Oztent. Hopefully I will get it before my labor day trip. They are not sure as its in transit. I would like to try it before I decide on the RTT

Might look at kirkhams tent too out of slc...very quick putting up and rock solid...however, I
,do like the fact of having the rtt for moving every day...crazy fast...

Nice, i was looking at the oztent rv5 for me and my son. I have the marmot halo 6 dome tent which i like, but its a pain in the ass to put up and tear down. The Oztent RV4 or RV5 looks perfect. Im looking forward to your review.

I considered the OZ tent a year or so ago, but settled on the Turbo Tent. The OZ tent was too much tent for the type of camping I do. It's a great tent if you camp alot.

Thanks for the comment. By too much tent do you mean price??

The container is here in the states and I am promised my tent by Thursday, so will have it in Ouray along with my Kamper to see how they line up. The young'uns will stay in the tent this timer. Then in September I will be taking the Oztent on the Moab to cruiserfest expedition with Kurt. I will see how I like it there and then decide on the RTT. The RTT might be better on the expedition run, but once setup at cruiserfest, it would be an impediment so the Oztent should be a plus on this trip

I don't sleep on the ground and just bought two REI Comfort Cots on sale 30% off to go with them. We will try those out in Ouray and if we don't like them I will return to REI and get the Oztent cots

So by the end of September I will have the opportunity to try out the Oztent in multiple situations and will post up my thoughts

One thing about the Oz Tent is that it's a long and heavy SOB to be loading/unloading from the roof rack if you are moving every day. I don't own one, just made this observation watching a couple with whom we camped with. You can tell the dude was getting rather annoyed at hauling that thing up/down every day from a 4" lifted 80 series.

Agreed, it sets up quickly and that part was brilliant.

Let us know your feedback once you had a chance to use it on a camping trip.

Lol, I have an RV-5 and can attest to what Ali said about getting the tent on top of a lifted cruiser...by myself... every time. But lifting it up to something like a Kimberley Kamper height wouldn't be a problem. ;)

I thought about getting a small roof box/basket for my 100 but then that would be extra height to deal with.

Oztent once offered the Ozpod. Lay the tent up against the rear of the vehicle, then slide the tent in the Ozpod and then secure the hatch.

Mine came today and it fit in the back of my 100 with the middle seats down no problem. This wont work if you have more than 3 traveling (passenger seat can be up)

Heading to Ouray in the AM and will post more pictures. I wanted the Oztent cots, but couldn't get them till next week so I bought the REI Comfort cots that are on sale 30%. Nice and comfy when I tried them out, but very bulky. I might take them back next week and order the Oztent cots anyways

I'll post more in a review later on. But the Oztent fit in the back of my 100, so I didn't have to put it on a roof rack. It fit well with My Kimberly Kamper and also held two large REI comfort cost which are bigger than the normal sized cost.

It set up fast and put away quick

I did move the oztent over in the truck a bit so it was behind the passenger seat, that kept if from coming between the seats when wheeling

The light at the top of the Oztent is an LED light from Kimberley with a Velcro back.

It actually looks like a natural fit....plus it offers some additional privacy.

I bet with a little ingenuity you could put a gutter between the awning and tent, and let it drain off the side.
