thanks guys. it's been super busy at the shop so i have'nt had much time to devote to this little project. but i did get the 2h re-installed into the project troopie so we're one step closer. hopefully later next week i'll have some more time to work on the ps pump mount. i'll post pics when i have something worth sharing......

the only difference between a LHD and RHD power steering system is the length and location of the ps lines and the inside-outside frame mounting location of the ps box. for a RHD gasser, you'd want to run a sag box from a chevy pickup; pretty much any 70s vintage.

my ps plate kit will still work. :)

I have seen some LHD troopies with the PS pump mounted on the right side. My 2F motor out of my late 79 had the pump mounted on the left side bolted to the factory holes on the block. Oman on this forum has PS pump on right side. Also, the Troopy that has been on ebay recently is the same. both are from Middle east.

what i'm working on is strictly for the diesel engines, specifically the H and 2H. the gassers can use/utilize all the ps conversion parts available for the domestic 40s and 45s.

60 steering boxes

Merbesfield,

The location of the pump on petrol rigs has more to do with whether they came factory with polution rubbish or not, not what region they are from. Here in Oz, the Western States (non-smog) 2Fs had the pump on the right, and the Eastern States (smog) 2 Fs had it on the left. You can get all the pump stuff from a US-Spec FJ60, and install it that way on your RHD rig. When I put power steering on my HJ47, I used a pump from a 2F and made the bracket. I then aligned the pulley to run with my alternator. I had it that way for nearly 2 years, until I finally had to put a Vortec in to get to pass Federal smog.

OrangeFJ45,

As for the power steering box: let me know if it is easier for you to use the HJ60 box. I can get as many as you want from here and ship them to you in Cali. My mates at the wreckers here price things very reasonably for me, as I have made them very happy in the past. I could probably put together 10 or 12 HJ60 boxes, and send them to you all at once. This would minimise shipping costs for you. Just a thought.

Cheers,

Josh

BinaryDude,

Where is Oswald leaving from? Maybe I could get the boxes shipped there. Problem: if you are doing Roro, then they are fairly pedantic about what is on board.

I'm not sure what 10 or 12 boxes would cost to ship but I reckon it would be less than $50 each if they were all shipped together- in fact, I would be suprised if they were even that much.

OrangeFJ45,

Let me know if you want to do this, and I will get after it next week. I did not mean to hijack the thread, I just wanted to offer in case it is easier for you. I want to see all the rigs in the US equipped with air con, 5 speeds and power steering.:) You can PM me if it is better.

Cheers,

Josh

HJ47,

Oswald is leaving from Melbourne, and already has a few spare parts in the back. Only thing is the ship is setting sail in a week, so that would put a rush on things. I know someone else who is shipping another FJ/HJ as well and we can talk to him. But like you said shipping that should not be to bad at all.

Kris

****UPDATE****
The shipping company just told me that they were not able to book my troopy on the next boat, and that i would be October 11th before it will ship out. That gives us more time to get the boxes to Melbourne

hey josh.
thanks for the reply and the offer. i think i'm going to stick with domestic parts for two reasons:
1) availability
2) less shipping cost for the kits since the vehicle owners will be able to go to their local parts store to buy the ps pump and box

but i really appreciate the offer and will keep you in mind. we might need to find some double crank pulleys since they're pretty tough to come by over here.....so please let me know if you have a source on these.
thanks again!!!!

sorry about the ongoing delays guys. i've had to complete a couple of other side projects i had slated before this kit and i'm way behind on customers' projects at the shop. i've also had a couple of unexpected personal issues to deal with so the ps kits had to be put on the back-burner.

but the good news is that one of my custoemrs' rigs will the the test vehicle for this and i plan on getting to it during the second week of OCT. i will post up when i have some news. thanks for the support and interest!

No worries Georg,

Happy to help. I just rang my wreckers friends and they have 3 2H harmonic balancers right now. he will sell them to me for au$125-$150 each. These are from HJ75 pickups with power steering and air. They will fit the 2H, but not the H. He reckons he can get 2 more if I really need them.

I like the idea of the domestic box as well from a parts availability point of view- that's why I put a Vortec in my HJ47...:)

I'd love to see some photos of your p/s kit when you are done with it. Would a LHD 60 series box work if you made a bracket to bolt it to the inside of the chassis rail?

Cheers,

Josh

hey guys.
thanks for the replies, interest and continued patience.

i just got back from attending the "southern cruiser crawl" at gray rock AL. the ps kits came up in conversation a couple of times. what it boils down to is the fact that there's just not enough time in the day for me to get all my projects done. i have a certain # of parts/products i want to develop and sell thru my business. this is one of them and it's slowly but surely working its way to the top of the list as other products get done with the "prototyping" stage and move into production. i just got a couple more products done and out there last week. i have a few more in the prototype stage right now, some more complete than others.
on top of that, i have customers' vehicles at the shop waiting to be worked on, more work lined up and then there's my house, my wife and kids, ............ and last on the list is my own rig, which i have not touched in about a year now. so it sits collecting dust while i hitch rides with buddies in their cruisers or i would'nt be wheeling at all.

so please bare with me and i will get these done. i have to get a few vehicles done and delivered before i can get back on these, but it will happen. heck, one of my customer's rigs is at the shop and is the prototype vehicle for this kit so you know it'll get done.

thanks again, you guys rock!

Man, you are just having too much fun, now get back to work.:) JK. I will be needing one those ps kits and possibly one of those fancy t-case cones for a mod I'm planning....when you get around to it.
