How does a 2f with a 5 speed run?

Done 'right', they run faster than any 40 could ever travel safely.

Between 2F, 1FZ-FE with AT (I think a 1FZ-FE MT could be a monster), 1HZ-T, 1HZ-T (from HD) the 2F/H55F will smoke all in every category of 'performance', save fuel economy....without smoking.

I love the 1HZ, in NA form, but have a completely newfound respect for Toyota's 1HDT turbo on a 1HZ, as the power delivery and overall butt dyno feel far surpasses that of aftermarket turbos (can chirp 35s going into 3rd with a Safari turbo).

But, the 2F can be built to be phenomenal.....at the expense of a couple of used HZ/H55Fs/BF1As that burn half the fuel.

EDIT I thought you asked about a 2H not 2 F ,my bad ;0
Pretty good and with the 2H you can reuse your transmission as the H 2H and 12HT are the only diesels I know of that use the coarse spline clutch.

I have a low mileage 2H coming in the US in a few weeks also, just the engine no transmission.

Do you have any idea what engine came in your 40 does it have a compliance plate on the firewall this should be stamped with with what engine and tranny came in your truck. Depending on what engine came with the truck will help on the cheapest option for you to run with.

For the money and ease of installation I would seriously consider the 2h, especially considering that joekatana has a low km one on the way.

Are the motor mounts the same for the 2f/2h?
unfortunatly not. they are a bit different. but they dont require the chassis mounts to be changed. you juts have to have the right mounts for a 2H for a HJ45 or HJ47

Yeah. It came with a 2f and has a "rebuild" h42 transmission.
This is what I have in the engine bay that's left over

Find a reasonably priced, late model 2F donor to shove in there, preferably one with an OE carb...

Listen, if there were a historical record of Cruiserdom from the beginning of time until today, I might grace the pages as the 'king of stupid chit', having the loftiest ambitions and goals on 'builds', that, if dissected and all variables/amounts known, be considered the epic-est fails in all history.

Ie, the aforementioned 2F....

It may be the best running 2F that's ever graced a roadway....and it's in a Cruiser that would otherwise be deemed undeserving by 99.9% of even the most die hard fanatics.

Not saying yours is or isn't, as I understand the difficulty of viewing your own pragmatically, but, hypocritically offering the opinion that KISS'ing is the best course of action:

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

She's a lefty so as above keep it simple with a plug and play engine F or 2F engine and drive it and enjoy what you have for a few years. In this time you will have the truck set up to your liking.
I would love to see the rest of the truck as it looks very good under the bonnet if the rest looks as good keep it stock as it's a classic that some pay huge dollars to own. :)

It is in good shape just needs a new paint job and I'm dealing with the rust that's on the inside right now.

As stated before I'm not too good with older engine specs. What's the difference between the 2f & 2h.
Where are you located?

2f is a gas engine, 2h is a non-turbo diesel. The 2f, 2h and 12ht can all use the same stock 40/60 series 4 spd. transmission.

So I take it that the 2h is a more Superior engine than the 2f?
And since it's diesel i its a better on fuel and power also? Would the 2h bolt on to a h55 with no needed adapters?[/QUOTE]

Looks like your uncle done a great job storing her for you and you are one lucky man bet he has no idea what these trucks are worth these days. Anyway where all keen to see you do a good job on your truck ask as many questions as you need and take plenty of pics as you put her back on the road. :)

Actually he did totally the opposite. He let it sit outside in his backyard with both the rear ambulance doors off. Did some good rust pits in the rear tub and the front floorboards. Thats the worse, all else is syill decent The exterior surprisingly is still in good shape.
Luckily I'm in southern California. It kept the rest to a minimal

That's good news on the rust how many miles are showing on the speedo. The first investment will be a good engine then brakes and master cylinder these are cheap to kit out if you have any problems finding parts let me know and I will see what I can find in Australia as there's heaps of them getting used as daily drivers in OZ.

You just need to buy the correct belhousing znd starter motor,I live in North Texas

The 2F has more HP but less torque the the 2H but the 2H will get better fuel consumption. The 2h will need new engine mounts welded to the chassis rails plus you will need a early h type bell housing that has the rear engine mounts to use your gearbox. The hj47 (2h) come with a rear cross member that supports the gearbox.
