This may be my next major mod :D

camperbody80open.jpg

(I left the rear bumper on to show gain of rear departure angle)

Been talking with a fabricator friend of mine for the last couple hours about it. We're going to do lunch and i'll bring the 80 to get
a better idea and some measurements. After that we'll see pricing we can come up with and if it's do-able. Similar kits from Germany
run $25k Euro's right now and then you need to get them here. I think we can cut that more than in half.

We'll see. It's a huge decision, because once you start cutting you can't go back. And yes i've thought about a donor 80.. but i have too
many parts to swap onto the clunker 80.. including engine, axles etc etc. Also to come up with the money for this the trailer would go bye
bye and so would the rack, rear drawer system and rear bumper w/swing outs.

Anyways, i'll keep you guys posted as to what we decide and how we will accomplish it. It's nothing im jumping into asap.. but i made the
photoshop tonight and i wanted to share. I think it came out amazing.

Dibs on the rack ;p and I may have a buyer for the trailer.

Looks nice!

Dibs on the kaymar Dave!

Forgot to add....Very cool idea by the way! Ya, i think by parting out what you no longer need/want you can narrow the price gap down to a point where it will be a very do-able project.

I need a DS swingout for the kaymar if it's available.

Did I mention I like the idea? :grinpimp:

LOL... i've already had like 3 people before you tell me they want the Rack.. Inti, drawers and trailer.

It's going to be tough the day that happens.

I might have to set a date and a time for an auction :D

Anyways, none of this is set in stone just yet...

Just sell Yosh's Heep and you are set! :flipoff2:

No but seriously, you don't think this will bring you back to the anoying rattle you had with the SMB?

We don't own Yosh's jeep. So if we sell it we aren't going to get much out of it. That thing has a monthly payment. Even with the mods, its won't pull much in a market saturated with Heeps. Plus she wanted a yellow jeep for as long as i've known her.. that aint cool to drop kick it.

On the rattle.. i plan to build this camper more on a simple basis inside. It will have a ARB or Engel fridge, it will have a regular outside stove that can be put on a table, it probably won't have too much of a sink top if any. It will be bare bones to start. The vast majority of the budget will be spent on the conversion itself and not the interior amenities. I can curl up with a sleeping bag and a plywood bed with portable fridge at first.

This will be very fun to watch. Dave, don't kid yourself. Your reputation precedes you. Nothing about this build will be simple. You are known for details. This will be :grinpimp: very quickly. Have fun with it!

I like the idea. 4-Wheel campers used make pop ups for blazers and broncos and I am toying with the idea of doing something similar with one of my 55's.

I have been on the hunt for a pop-up for my Tundra and ran across this recently-Thought it was unique as far as how it opened up.

One of the problems im facing is lack of space. For all the work, time and money to be spent if it's crammed quarters then i really don't want to do it. I mean , i know its going to be small.. but if theres hardly any room to sit down then i won't even waste my time. Im going to make a outline in our shop and see what i can come up with since there's no one around with one to check out in person.

Looking at the german link and having already seen the build over on Portal, lack of space was my first reaction. With your current cruiser/trailer set up, you've got loads of space.

Quarters in the build you are contemplating look very cramped - like an ok place to sleep, but not much else.

Yep, Brent you are absolutely correct. Right now we are spoiled. We have more space to store things than we need. Im used to it. When i drove the EW tacoma on a trip.. i ran out of room fast. I didn't like that feeling.

..this is one of the things that may keep me from doing it.
