UPDATE: got some sliders made up, threw on some diff/axle armor

Do you drain the diff before welding on armor? Curious as I know guys who don't and others that say you must.

Pretty controversial, I just changed the fluid after welding on it to be safe since it's so cheap and easy!
I leave the fluid in as a heat sink to help prevent warpage, then change afterwards knowing that the oil is pretty well screwed after reaching vaporization temps.

Thanks for the input pounder and jits, have a 5 gallon bucket of it so I'll just weld , drain, and refill after words.

Will you elaborate on the front tie rod assembly or product you used ie. Where did you get it? Is it the chevy style rod ends with a RH Toyota arm? Did you reem out the Toyota end? Or was it a bolt up deal?
Reason for asking is my flex is limited to my tie rod hitting my control arm & I want to get that out of the way.
Thanks.

Nice pics by the way... what filter are you using or name of effect?

A little more info, I bought this kit from Ammo and replaced the tie rod ends with ones by partsmike. Yes it is 1 ton Chevy ends, I bought a RHD arm, reemed out the pitman and arms to the Chevy spec, I used a bilstein universal 22.5in shock for the absorber, the tie rods are 1 ton which I believe came in some sort of kit from rough stuff! Hope this helps! If you need more info Ammo and Jcardona1 are the ones to ask.

As far as pictures they are just taken with an iPhone 6 and I use an app to adjust clarity and color levels

Got a hell of a deal on a never used Warn XD9000i (free) put some warn synthetic line on it, busted out a quick winch plate, and through a light bar on.

And added a vinyl to support a local expedition out fitter shop!

Ohhhh yeahhh, also had to limit the rears flex, added some 21in limiting straps, stopping the droop right before the 14in travel shocks stop.

Apounder, I have to admit what you are doing is what I want in my rig! Lets be real, Ammo, and JCardona1 are way out there. This is more feasible for the average joe like me. I like what you did! keep it up! I plan on mimicking your setup. I just ordered my shocks the 5165s and i will do the rears soon. Are they the same specs front and rear? Except that the front has the big reservoire? This should be a fun fall getting my rig ready!

Your 80 is so sweet man! Good job on the build.
Where did you get the front axle truss? And I see you are using the hitch pin mod. What are your thoughts on it?

Hey Pounder..... do you think I could get a few up close pics of your drop bracket for the control arms? I think that is the best way to correct geometry from the lift and just wanted a couple pics of yours before I go cutting and welding on mine. Also have you ever seen any instance where you thought it was in the way wheeling? I just dont think it would ever hinder me with my mall cruising and believe you should get much better road manners and better articulation with it in a more parallel position. Thanks

Jason

did i see correctly that you originally had a Badlands front bumper on this thing? if so i did not know they made them for the 80-series, i really like it!

Yeah I will get some pics! Sorry for late reply, I have not managed to hit the drop brackets at all, even through some very technical trails.
