I’m imagining this post with the background music of Carly Simon’s “you’re so vain”...

I have one set of tires for my daily driving that are bling bling and one set for offloading that have the nice "do whatever you want to these tires" warranty.... They are on old set of rims that are from several other cars that I parted out. They really don’t look all that great. Well at some point in time I realized that I only take pictures of this car when I’m off roading with the ugly wheels. So decided it was time for a change. I sandblasted them and I’m painting them with the same body color. I may add some black highlights if there’s too much of the body color, however it is 100% better than it was before.

Boost has had a dent in the front hood since I bought it as well as have seen some rust starting on one of the seams on the front edge. When I installed a Subaru scoop several years ago, I never painted it to match either... Coming from Arizona— sun damage to the clearcoat on the hood and front fenders also. I’m on able to do a lot of more physical things after a surgical procedure, so decided to rip them off and get them painted!

Well, the best laid plans... I had almost one full quart of paint but now I need another to paint the full clip. So have the paint store mix up another quart. Only problem was they mixed up single stage... I usually use a basecoat clearcoat. I didn’t realize it and even mix the two paints together to make my batch of final paint. Have some strange stripes going on but this will have to be good enough... darn!!!

Well the mix up at the paint store turned out pretty terrible.... Time to double up the work and sand it all down and start over... 2020 sucks

Well, due to the miscommunication with my friend on the paint, I finally decided to strip all the paint off and start over! I hate doing things twice, but I hate doing things incorrectly even more. So out comes the DA and sanded off all of the paint that was added down to the epoxy primer. 7 1/2 hours of fun!

I used to work at paint shop and I was never happy with a single stage with metallic.

When I called the paint shop and explained that I had mixed a quart of paint with half single stage and half base/clear, they were very concerned that it would stick long term, so I opted to sand it all off and start over.

Another successful trip through Colorado…. Devils punch bowl, Schoefield, etc…
