Metal on This truck is much more stout than a 100 series. I feel like it's harder to move than my 80 and others I have worked on. Also didn't enjoy the sound deadening product he added to the quarter pannels

I don’t know why, but I could have swore this truck went to a body shop for quarter repairs before? I guess I’m thinking of a different one.

Amazing work @REKCUT . Looks very tedious.

I "fixed" the quarters with a football a couple years ago. I would have rolled with it except I fully wrecked the front and it had to go to the doctor.

Put on a long book and zone out. More than a day on the door

The Oddball is back at Ozark Overland for paint and repair that could not be done with paint less.

Jason backs up Thad saying this truck has the thickest metal of any 80 they have ever worked.

The front is mostly lining back up. I hit it hard. My new ARB bumper will cover any issues

Oddball made it to the rack.

It's getting a new main tank. One of the baffles fell off and was clanking around and keeping my fuel gauge off.

LRA is going in. 8 mpg off road makes even trips to the Ozarks sketchy. This truck came with a 12 gallon aux tank but it was a mess and I removed it way back when.

@Ozark cruiser also discovered oil leaking out of my tcase that has a nice metallic glimmer.

**** it. Gonna have them drop all of that, fix my long leaking rear main, add a Terrian Tamer HD clutch and rebuild the Tcase.

I mean, why not right?

If you're going to rebuild the t-case through in some lower gears, at least for low range.

You know, I've never felt I needed more gearing.

I had to search the thread to see the football trick. Very interesting...

I think I would cry a lot of tears if our Holy Truck (Middle East 80) got serious dents like you are dealing with.

I've often thought that the 80 series seems to have thicker body panels than the 100. Google Gemini says that the 80 series uses mild steel body panels while the 105/100 uses early high tensile steel body panels, which you can flex with a finger press.

Here's what the AI thinks:

Where is AI getting this information? How do you know it's true?

Jason has been bending Cruisers for years and he said my 80 had thicker steel than he's ever dealt with. Is that even possible? It's an early truck. Maybe they scaled back?

I’m not talking about Jason.

I’m talking about the information above: where is AI getting this information?

Turns out no one makes a clutch for the 1991 3FE with H150 transmission.

Jason tried Terrain Tamer and then Cruiser Outfitters. CO was 6 weeks out of Japan.

I called @OGBeno and he did his Rainman thing and came up with an alternative disc he thinks will work.

Look at the prices. Man. Tarrifs will hit too. Makes me love my Amazon $200 Aisin kits.

Good to be suspicous. I don't rely on it, but sometimes it is useful to find actual information. In this case I was lazy and did not bother to ask for the source material--but I was only confirming something that I thought I had noticed myself.

And just this morning I had a reminder of where things really are with AI: I woke up at a little after 5 am here in Dubai and I asked Alexa (the new and 'improved' Alexa) what time it was in Washington DC. She said 5 am. I just asked her again; her response: "It is 6:21 am in Washington DC right now." This is AFTER I pointed out her error to her a couple of times. Sigh. If only I were Jackson Roykirk....

So you do not know where AI got this information from: IE: this information has not been verified?

If so, it helps to caveat this fact.

There are tons of people on MUD who see this kind of thing and assume it to be true when it might be completely false. Actually, this happens most of the time currently with AI in relation to correct knowledge about Land Cruisers.

Caveat Emptor.

Point!

And I've noticed that AI often cites Mud. So it might totally be circular. I decided to drill a little more and I did get a little further. Flensed of all the extraneous stuff Gemini came up with:

The "High-Tensile Steel" Specification
The definitive proof is found in the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Series New Car Features (NCF) technical manual (Reference: Toyota Technical Documentation, Pub. No. NCF276E).

When the 100 Series was introduced in 1998, Toyota explicitly highlighted a change in body construction materials as a major engineering advancement over the previous generation (the 80 Series). The documentation lists the extensive adoption of High-Strength Sheet Steel (also known as High-Tensile Steel) for the body shell.

I pointed out that all that said is that the 100 could be thinner not that it actually was. To which Gemini responded:

The "Surface Area vs. Mass" Proof (The Mathematical Impossibility)
The most absolute proof is found by comparing the Body-in-White (BIW) mass against the vehicle's dimensions.

The Fact: The 100 Series body is significantly physically larger than the 80 Series. It is 90mm wider and has a higher beltline, meaning it has roughly 15-20% more surface area of sheet metal than an 80 Series.

The Constraint: According to the Toyota New Car Features (NCF276E) document, the raw body shell weight of the 100 Series did not increase proportionally to its size.

The Proof: If the 100 Series used the same gauge (thickness) sheet metal as the 80 Series, the body shell would weigh approximately 15-20% more due to the extra surface area. Because the shell weight remained comparable to maintain the center of gravity, the material thickness per square inch must be lower. You cannot increase surface area without increasing weight unless you decrease thickness.

One of the reasons I am back in Dubai right now is to try to make some progress on Schrodinger, the diesel 105. What greeted me was less than optimal:

We had to change body shops. It is going back down to bare metal. I will borrow a micrometer and measure it in a couple of places. Door handle holes seem like a logical place.

Thank you for your steady hand @OGBeno!
