That was possibly one of the times I didn't smash that puddle. Working on my own little mud bog rite out the front of the shop. Lol.

Had the rear tyre carrier open as I was driving the other day. The rubber catch I added is pushing a little to much on the carrier.
I had shortened it as much as I could which helped but still not totally happy with it.
I had bought some weld on drop pins a while ago but didn't get lock open ones.
I machined a slot in the boss and fitted a roll pin , now it's a half turn and it stays open.

Still slams shut you can just drop the pin for the added peace of mind.

Sectioned the carrier support.

Fitted some exteneded anti inversion shackles,

already had poly bushes installed so changing them out was a dream.

New vs old.

New bushes,

Fronts,

IMG_6855_zpsl85xdpja.jpg

Found out the fronts had plenty of down travel left in the springs and shocks, but the rear was pre loaded by a fair bit.
Im fairly sure the rear pack was a heavy duty tow package.
So i thought id try and soften it up a bit.

i trimmed down most of the leafs minus the ones with clamps.

IMG_6863_zpshurqievj.jpg

Actually made a bit of a difference, quite a lot softer out back, think i need some longer shocks to boot , as they where bottomed out with a fair amount of pre load still.

Hanging out with his little brother,

Fitted up a gilmer toothed belt set up.
All lined up fairly well , just need to trim one pulley for the a little more clearance on the power steering belt.

Toothed belt all sorted,

Had to trim the waterpump pulley for a little clearance but worked out spot on.

Built up an alternator bracket to utilise two bolts. I just had a simple bolt through a spacer before.
The new one will defiantly reduce any flex or wobble and much nicer spread over two fixtures.

Succumbed to the fact I should mount up the front plate properly. Don't need anything additional for the plods attention.
Kind of works.

Took her out for a few hundred km's round trip today,
Always a test with a new cooling system , new suspension and new belts but everything performed very well.

Maintains 80 degrees very constantly , thermos kicks in a 80 and cools to below 80 with in a minute or so.

The rear has levelled out very nicely , softened up just about level.

Diff will is getting fitted this week and then I'm on the hunt for tyres.

Rear locker is in ,
Amazing so positive now, took her out in the large rain storm last night and tackled a few grassy hills i had slipped on in the dry and it ate them up,
No clunking or clicking , very very happy.

Lauches so well in the dry , now really lunges under full pump.

The only thing it has done is increase the shimmy in the front , I tightened up the steering box late last night which helped , but still well active over the front.

Thanks to the Diff technics boys , fitted in halve a day and sorted hub bolts and other bits.
very profesional.

Not much to show.

Old free wheeler in amazing condition, although the bearings were actually floating on the stubs.

Added a inlet to plumb the crank case breather up to the airbox,
While I had it out I fitted the proper o ring for the carb hat and painted everything.

Need to do something with the rocker covers as they are far from water tight.

I also spaced out the polycarbonate so it wasn't so bent, looks a lot nicer now, still is crushing the seal more than enough.

Got out for some real trails today,
The detroit locker is amazing, makes such a difference.

Took it fairly easy as i was flying solo, having said that she ate everything I threw at her and the scence of security rose.

Very very happy with how she went on the first real outing.

Blew the fuse for the thermo fan on a water hole so was running very hot on the drive home, got up to 105 at one stage, its amazing what that fan does.
Replaced the relay to a 30amp fused version on my return so we should be good to go from now on.

Made a start on some draws to house all the crap in the back,

Nothing massive just enough to hide recovery gear tools and fluids/belts and so on.

IMG_6933_zpsn2dbed9o.jpg

Fitted up some Rocker covers, hit the flywall so had to do a bit of cut and shut,

IMG_6950_zpsdfj55qs6.jpg

Also added a breather pipe,

IMG_6957_zpsebhjqehh.jpg

Thick rubber gaskets to boot, had to remove the splash guards from the covers as they were hitting the rockers,
Have a weld on filler cap coming.

Been a crazy week or two at work, not much to report,
A photographer mate was around and snapped this one,
Reconfirms the need for at least 36" tyres.

AGFABS%20323646_zpszg42jroi.jpg

36x12.5x15 Simex Extreme Trekker The Centerpede 2, 15x8 Allied beadlocks.

Basically brand new, little rust from storage but otherwise in awesome condition.

IMG_6997_zpshtfpprgq.jpg

busted 33's and spanking 36's

IMG_7004_zps9lzag8qo.jpg

Getting very tall now,

IMG_7006_zpsjbecs41q.jpg

Already ripped of the lower part of the front flares, trimmed them off, these tyres take no prisoners, will look at some panel trimming as well as moving the front diff forward.
