Let me add that the seller MAY have already fixed this issue, if it even is one - - don't mean to sound TOO alarming here. I sent a note and will follow-up.

I guess the key issue is how common are these wedges and was there anything done to fix the leaf springs in the last few months.

We would be looking at what is the optimal height for the vehicle for us, anyway. We may simply want to do lower springs and fix the issue, regardless.

it's called a castor shim. Tilts the axle one way or the other depending on how the owner installed.. SO.. you either get driveshaft angle or castor back.. ANd if they're alum.. well that's a whole other ball game.. Ever heard of Dis-similar metal corrosion? Mmmm Fun.. Not saying the PO did something wrong, we all do.. but with any modified vehicle they are only going to be as complete and the knowdlege base and budget of the prior owner.

Sounds like to be a clean deal for real use we will need to replace the leaf springs with appropriate vehicle-specific components. Now I have to worry about hangers and mounts and fit of an All-Pro. This may be an issue.

you really won't know till you at least take it around the block. you planning on driving this sort of thing daily? Cut and turn the axle after you get it home.

Good point. Yea goal is to be a daily driver, too.

I concur with the budda. Cut and turn. I have read several posts lately on 80 series doing cut and turn.... some work, but with that new welder not too bad....

Thanks, guys. We made it home today. Will add more later.

Really. No pictures?

In the last Toyota trails, there is a rig that looks like that in colorado on three wheels. Awesome pic. don't know if it is the same one, but you got a great looking rig.

Cheers,

Oh, and I have a stack of lights in the garage for you. I can bring them back to work if you want to pick up there.

Was that pic on page 33? If so, not mine, but ty for kind words!

Great article in the previous TT, btw, Kelly!

I'd love those lights! I can come by with the '04 4runner and put a bunch in the back?

Shoot me a text when is good for you.

New tires/wheels for someone for xmas! (and not for me or Son) :)

Couple pics here:

I've been driving the ditch as my only sense of "off-roading" so far :)

Another pic is of the leaf spring set up. Not sure what to make of it except it seems to work OK for now.

I will probably swap the existing 4-5" lift hangers out for the 1-2" set from All Pro. Any guidance there is appreciated.

Hoping to pick Colin's brain a good bit when he picks up the 35's :)

Update:

Lift:

I ordered the 1-2" lift spring hangers for the 4runner this week from All-Pro. This should take me down at least 2" and look a little better with the new tires :) I also feel like my son may be a little safer in this rig on the road. I will keep the taller ones for a few years from now :)

Next step is to swap the 2" body lift out for a 1". I may try to just cut the 2" ones in half . . . not sure there, yet.

Other:

I was out in 10-15 degree weather the other night and had the truck die on me after running for about 10 mins. After a couple hours sitting it started up and then did it again. I noticed it started coughing first when i put it in gear and then eventually, it just dies out of gear, too.

I bought replacement vacuum lines today. Will try that, next. Going to replace with high heat silicone like I did the Land Cruiser.

Seems like it could be fuel delivery or maybe distributor or EFI. My first thought was that a fuel filter had water in it and it froze - but that doesn't make sense given the situation.

I have it over at SK Mechanics now - - they are looking at it, but I think it is confusing to them, too.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

U can plumb in an inline fuel pressure gauge either at the filter with a new banjo bolt or at the cold start injector with a kit from a company. The name of that company will prob pop in my head while I sleep. I put one on the fuel filter with off the shelf parts from summit
