Getting up there in miles, missed the moment by 54 miles....

The balls on your engine have yet to drop…meanwhile Steve’s engine’s balls are banging around at the knees.
I also drive a Cummins everyday 17 years now. The in-line 6 is too good. And “they” know that. I’m a fan of that configuration. The Cummins only has 180k. Sometimes I wager with myself which one will die first.

Spent the last 3 days trying to find a shooter buck that my dad can actually hike to. No luck on the buck but I found a few sheds.

Lots of tarantulas this year, this one was a little guy. Just about the size of a quarter.

Any day hunting is better than work, but the bad luck spread from the lack of a shooter buck to the rig this evening

I kept my rig in 2wd all day because I was lazy and I might have gone through a few sections of trail with heavy throttle when I most likley should have been using the 4wd.

Lesson learned lol

I sheared all the studs on the hub. I was able to limp out about 8 miles in front wheel drive and make it to the highway.

My buddy came and got the cruiser with his duramax suburban and I got her towed home.

Duraburb for the win!!!!

I found a few hours to try and extract these broken studs....

After my left hand drill bit was dull and none of them were coming out I said F it and called a friend. Friend said he had an extra hub or 4 laying around so I decided to just start from scratch.

new bearings and seals are on the way!!!!!

Good decision. For future repairs, pick up a “Rescue Bit” kit. They are hard as hell and be hard in left hand twist. Those studs should have never broken. Maybe it’s time for ARP’s. They can be torqued too 30lbft. That extra 4lbft adds significant clamping force.

In the meantime I had the old man drop me off at a trailhead and got to spend a couple days backpacking for the deer hunt.

They were ARP studs..... But when the original oem studs sheared the first time they took chunks of metal off the hub. I believe this combined with my heavy throttle in rear wheel drive caused a premature failure of the ARP studs.

Maybe one day I’ll understand broken steering and hub studs. I’ve never babied my rigs (three 80’s) and have never broken studs. Perhaps I came close but didn’t. Drilling was unsuccessful bc the ARP’s are super hard. Keep the pics coming.

New used hub, new wheel bearings, and new seals today. Got her put back together and running. Also drained and refilled the rear diff with new fluid. No metal flakes on the drain plug and the axle slipped right in so I think I avoided any serious damage to the gears.

Unfortunately I left my phone at home so I didn't get any pictures while we did the repair at my friend's place.

The studs that sheared were ARP studs, I just put it back together with OEM studs. I am going to order some new ARP studs and change them out along with double checking the bearing preload in the next month or so.

Some more weekend shenanigans.

Did a little over nighter to finish packing up my deer hunting camp and helped a buddy cut firewood.

Again, you live the dream….

3 people in my department have quit in the last month so I have been working a bunch of OT and not doing much with cruiser.

But I finally got the rig to a local body shop to work on the hacked up rear fenders.

They cleaned the insides really well and sanded the surface. Than they squirted a bunch of high quality body panel foam stuff down into the fenders.

I really think this will hold up and keep the rear fenders sealed now. The foam is nice and flexible so hopefully it doesn't fail like the liquid nails I used the first time lol.

Also took the cruiser out to do some shooting .

Looks like Charlie is getting some love…

Recently I have been spending my days off trying to find some fresh MTN lion tracks.

So far no luck but lots of fun driving and awesome views.
