I've seen a couple 6x6 bulls so far in preparation for my elk hunt next week. One was a nice bull probably 320". They big bulls won't stay in the open long enough for me to get a photo through the binos 😆 🤣

Yesterday I saw a sow and 2 cubs which is always fun.

And this morning I connected with a few dusky grouse.

This September has been awesome so far and the cruiser is running flawlessly.

I need to get more photos with the rig 🤣 🤣

Well I finished my elk hunt. I didn't get enough photos of the cruiser but it performed flawlessly over almost 400 miles. The jeep, the ford, and the Polaris side by side being used in my group all had some kind of problem but the 27 year old cruiser didn't skip a beat and never needed the hubs locked 😆 🤣.

Dude! Congrats on the sweet bull!

Thanks, I was really hoping for a bigger bull considering I had a limited entry tag and it took me 15 years to draw.

But when this guy stepped out at 70 yards I didn't even hesitate or take the time to look him over with the binos 🤣 😂

I slammed him with the muzzy the second he held still.

if I score him as a 5x5 he is approximately 284. If I count him as a 6x6 he would be 286. I'm calling him a 5x5 🤣

A bull is a bull is a back strap.

I've been hiking my tits off this September and called in two bulls under 25 yards, each on the wrong side of a willow or aspen. I hate archery.

This is one of my favorite threads here on mud. You inspired me to maybe do a little bit more fire cooking. I live in Utah too. Curious, are you seeking out wood other than pine to cook with in the woods, or do you find that pine doesn't give too much of an unpleasant flavor to the meat and veggies?

I just avoid aspen. Scrub oak is the best, juniper is also good. But even when I use pinion or other pine I don't notice any unpleasant flavor.

Cooking on a fire is not a low and slow process. It's more hot and fast so I don't think the food has much time to absorb the flavors.

Also I think letting the wood burn into coals before cooking helps with bad flavors also.

Oil change today at 167,200 miles and also replaced a marker light and installed the slee headlight harness.
