Figure its time for an update.

I checked all my motor and transmission mounts, they were good to go.

I diagnosed one of the noises coming from the back of the truck. The rearmost passenger body mount was torn, I think it tore when I was wheeling sand hollow and my slee swing out came loose. When it came loose it swung open and locked in the open position, I am not sure how long I was driving with it swung out and open but I definitely drove over some serious rocky and whooped out trail with it in the open position. I am sure this is what tore the old motor mount.

I ordered all new Febest body mounts and got them changed.

Beginning of September I was able to make it out for a couple of dove hunts, I am still finding little feathers in the back of the rig.

Good times with the cruiser!!!

How bad was swapping out all the body mounts? Haven't checked but I'd make a decent sized bet that mine are in need of replacement.

Not too bad depending on rust, like everything its all in the prep. Hit all the hardware with some penetrating fluid a couple of times leading up to the job, don't forget the two little bolts on the front and rear mounts in addition to the long through bolts.

I like to take my time so I spent one day pulling all the trim to access the hardware from the top and getting everything loose. Than I was able to spend another full day with the jack going around the truck and swapping the mounts.

Also make sure to check the hose going to the heater valve on the firewall, lifting the body to swap the mounts will put some stress on this location. On my rig it pulled the hose off enough that it started a small leak that was easily fixed by re attaching the hose.

After the body mounts I still had some weird noises coming from the back. I had a friend drive the rig while I sat in the back and traced the noise to the tailgate. If it sounds like you have a bunch of squirrels in the back of your rig than check this part of the tailgate.

I am not sure what the PO could have done to cause this damage but the two pieces of sheet metal are rubbing and they make some really strange noises lol. I think I can grab the tailgate off my old wrecked 91 and do a swap instead of trying to fix this.

Once I get around to swapping the tailgate than hopefully the rig will be quiet...... at least for a few months until another noise pops up.

Thanks man, appreciate the advice. This is definitely on the list...along with a few hundred other things...

My exhaust in annoying on long highway drives where I am driving at sustained rpm's above 2,700. The drone is very obnoxious and gets old after a few minutes. The exhaust also rattles on the sliders. I was thinking about trying to fix these issues but after talking with a friend who knows exhaust he says the only thing I could do is buy a new muffler and replace the entire exhaust from the cat back.

I hate fixing something if it isn't broke and other than being annoying the current exhaust is pretty decent so I guess I am just going to live with it unless anybody on here has a simple suggestion to quiet it up.

Today I got the rig up to buddies shop and had a drain and fill done on the transmission than brought the rig home and did an oil change.

The rig should be ready for more camping and deer hunting the last 10 days of October.

After the deer hunt ends I am going to work on swapping a tailgate and I still need to address my rear fenders before ice fishing and snowboarding season starts. I don't need any salty road grime and water getting into the wires in the rear quarter panel.

I always enjoy your posts and photos. Great to see a Land Cruiser, working as designed, in beautiful scenery.

The Davis Mountains are on my list. I try to get to Utah once a year. Would be fun to meet there one of these days.
Never been to Davis mtn but any mountains in Utahs west desert are awesome.

Next time you head my way send me a PM and we can try to get together for some adventures.

Absolutely.

Brain fart, I meant Henry Mountains.
Right on, the Henries are epic. I still want to do more exploring out there.

We had a storm roll through with some really high winds so I figured I had better run up on the mtn and check on my tents that are set up for the deer hunt. I also was able to do a little glassing and make an overnighter out of the trip.

@leonard_nemoy
about your exhaust drone....alot depends on where the exhaust pipe exits the underside of the vehicle.
First make sure it actually exits from under the vehicle, and not turned down after the muffler.
Then, does it exit straight back or does it turn and exit at the rear fender?
Also, pipe size can cause a drone.
There are ways you can leave 90% of the system in place and fix the drone

Care to elaborate? I also have a pretty bad drone going on.

Does the end of the exhaust pipe actually go out past the vehicle (or at least even with the farthest out bodywork)? If it doesn't, the exhuast sound waves can get caught in the body/bumper/hit the ground and drone and/or reverberate.
What muffler are you using?
What size is the piping? Stock size?

The pipe goes to rear passenger quarter panel area and terminates under the truck. It would need to go about 1-2 feet further in order to stick out past the body. I think I might try to extend the pipe, than the only problem would be the smash potential....
