i want to pose a question again that i posted earlier. I have a Remington Nylon 66 22lr. The front sight had a screw replaced before i was born(my dad shot rats at the dump when he was little), and I want to get it corrected. I have never done any work on guns other than keeping the clean and in good condition. How would you go about replacing the parts needed on an iron sight to keep it accurate. It seems the front sight cannot be adjusted.

FYI, this is a very neat gun. It is one of the first fo the plastics. It has been in the family for a long time and not being mine till recently, and just play gun, i don think it has ever been cleaned. It has never jammed or had any failure either.

wow, thanks. that is a huge help. I did not realize it was that simple.

The R.O. is a great pistol for the money. If you are using to punch paper, a great gub for it. If you are going to carry it at all, look at something with fixed sights. Adjustble sights are a snag hazard and a possible failure point. I'm a K.I.S.S. kind of guy, fixed sights won't let ya down;)

My Kimber Eclipse Pro Custom is going to Heinie to get a set of Straight Eight sights put on next week.

I concur. SA's are great guns for the money but I gotta be honest. I've been looking hard at 1911's and for the price I am willing to spend I think the SR1911 is going to be the one I get.

Yeah, when I think realistically about my use of this gun, it will most likely be mainly for target shooting, not carry. Either gun would be too big for me to conceal carry, and I don't really see me open carrying. So, the snag hazzard factor isn't really that big of a deal.

I was dead set on a Range Officer, until I started looking at the SR1911. I just think it's a great looking gun, 100% American made, and by a quality manufacturer, at a great price. I didn't intend to do so, but I seem to have become a Ruger guy, having bought the LCP and SR22. From all I've read, the R.O. is probably the better gun, but may end up costing a bit extra for that quality, as it should.

It may come down to which one I can find, and at what price. I don't really think I can go wrong either way. I think if I find them at similar prices, I'll go with the R.O., but if, as I suspect, I have trouble finding a R.O. for a price that is within $150 of the price of an SR1911, I might just go with the Ruger.

Comments on various posts:
Re screws/sights:
+1 on fixed sights for carry guns-less is more. For range guns or hunters sight upgrades or optics are nearly obligatory. A slight touch of loc-tite is typically employed. Be sure to use the BLUE loc-tite if you ever want to remove it without destroying the screw.

Re: 1911s:
I've carried and practiced with a variety of carry iron, Glocks, Smiths, KTs, Sigs, others. I've pretty much sold out on 1911s in 45. They just point and shoot smaller and faster than anything else. They almost shoot better for me without aiming. YMMV.
I have a Kimber Ultra CDP that I choose when I rig heavy (otherwise I usually pack a 357 2"SP101).

Now here's the shocker: My bedside night fighter is a Taurus !!! I was going to buy the basic springer and build it up and got talked into trying a Taurus PT1911 ALR. It had all the custom goodies plus a rail. I liked the alloy frame to help balance the light. I was willing to spend at least $500 to bring it up to snuff but after a good 1911 'smith shot it for a few days in different ways he couldn't find a thing to tweak. It shoots and feels like fine machinery which it is. Apparently Taurus went all-out on a modern QC dept to make sure they put out the best value they could manage. Mine is not quite Kimber CS but then again it's half the price and it shoots good.
Just my $0.02. I love a Ruger and I guess if their 1911 was out when I bought the bull I would have gotten that. I mentioned that my duty wheel gun is a Ruger. I also sold off a good DPMS AR in favor of my mini-14. I believe I would have gotten less for more with the SR if I had bought it.

Sorry for the crappy pics. It's a little dark in our living room.

I went to PDHSC in Raleigh to do some shooting this morning and, lo and behold, they had a Range Officer in the cabinet for a pretty decent price. Couldn't help myself. I really do like the Ruger SR1911, but I just keep hearing so many good things about the Range Officer, and it really is a high-quality gun at a pretty reasonable price.

I put a box of Speer Lawman through it and it ran great. No problems whatsoever. I do have smallish hands, so it'll take a little getting used to, but I think I'll manage. :D

Filthy Gun

I have been puting in some time at the range with the new glock 19, and have been shocked at how Dirty this gun is when finished. Yesterday, i put 150 rounds though it, and at the end, my trigger finger was black, and an inch of slide from the tip of the barrel was completely coated in soot. Is this a normal Glock thing, or just cheap ammo. One thing to note, my finger is black because the 19 is about the smallest gun that comfortably fits my hand. This puts my trigger finger just below or on the ejection port when not on the trigger. The internals were dirty as well. Thanks for any info.

Happens with my Glock as well, but I also shoot cheap ammo at the range, so it's probably dirty ammo.

Probably, Adam. Other guns would choke on dirty ammo and fail to fire. That way they don't get dirty. The Glocks just eat up any ammo and get dirty, but they go *bang*. :-)

ha nice response Allen. I mean the ammo i am using is 16 a box non bulk, retail at the range.

I've been shooting Federal American Eagle 9mm 124gr FMJ at the range. After 150 rounds, there's plenty of residue on my hands and some around the muzzle and ejector. There is very little in the slide or internals. I mean, it's dirty, but nothing like you describe. I've paid around $14/50 at WalMart and Lawman's Supply for that ammo. I hear the XDm will eat anything you throw at it like candy, so I'm not too concerned about it.
