Got the front bump mount to check fitment after welding and cleaning just have a few minor adjustments to make .. I think I'm gonna just leave it raw metal with a clear coat over it for a while  ... I think it beautiful just way it is lol

I must say I was hoping for a bumper without a bar. I personally don't like the looks of the bars on the Lexus, as it is angled the opposite way of the grille... But its not my choice. Your work looks great and I'm sure you are happy with it, and in the end that's what really matters.

Honestly I was a Lil ify on the bar too bc I really like the way it looked in the mock up without the bar and the bumper is already so dominating with the winch outside the grill ... BUT I have an amber light bar that that has been sitting in my office for a few years waiting to go somewhere so it's gonna go under that bar ... and after lookING at the pics It appears a bit tall as well. .. after mounting the light bar I'll see if my mind changes ... another reason I'm gonna hold off on powder coating for a while to make Lil adjustments like that .... and to feel like mad max :)

You really have a gift, that is some beautiful work on both bumpers!

Any thought been given to tucking the front bumper in a bit more, and possibly using a frame-mounted winch cradle? As with the original SSS front bumper, this one is so in-your-face - purely IMHO, the GX is a subtle 4x4, something stealthier would be a perfect fit.

THANKS JOE
yes there has been some thought of making a bumper that fits in tighter to the body bc there is room ... We were gonna use my truck to design it but I didnt wanna wait that long ... If we decide to do it at some point i'll just sell this bumper ... designing a bumper takes a lot of time that we dont really have when we both have full time jobs and families ... but i agree with you ... the original design of this bumper was for aggressive rock crawling which is why the approach angle is so gnarly ... I will say it is a design that grows on you bc it looks different from every angle ...

So what is your end goal for this build? Are you going more for a wheeling rig, or are you building it for overlanding? Or something else? Just curious. For instance, I'm going more for an overland/weekend camping, mild wheeling rig.

I almost think there is a low profile with a hidden hitch mount to throw a winch on when needed that could be built. Given that I winch maybe once a year, the ability to add it with quick disconnects and put it away leads to 1) less element exposure, 2) MUCH improved lines.

I wonder what someone like you (the man with the skills) could come up with given that perspective?

I think a little bit of both really .... this is my daily driver although I live 3min away from work I dont put many daily driving miles on it ... I enjoy the sport of overcoming the obstacles so I do want a wheeling capable vehicle when Its needed and the peace of mind that I would have isn't limited or barely enough to get me over the next mound I am faced with offroad ... but at the same time I'm in love with thought of doing some overlanding trips with my family and camping ...

Iv built a hidden winch for my Silverado a few years back and was very pleased with the outcome of it ... I built bc at the the only winch mount was a full bumper or a butt ugly tray that stuck off the front of the stock bumper like a foot ... at the time I had that truck I did stump grinding and tree work so there wer situations where i would get stuck quite a bit with a 3500 pound machine attached to hitch ... i did consider a front hitch for the purpose of a hitch mounted winch that i could do front and rear pulls then where would i put it when i wasnt using it and how ugly would it be just hanging on the front all the time? so i made a hidden winch mount and attach a receiver under the tray with a retractable hitch that i could push the stump grinder around a job from stump to stump ... it was like driving a fork lift it was nice ... In my mind a winch is a tool ... just like every other tool you keep on hand in your truck you dont always need it ... until you need it in a pinch or someone else needs your help ... if I had a receiver winch i would still never leave home with out it and which means i'd have a winch taking up room in my trunk...

He's gonna get his first taste of full on rock crawling at Superlift park this weekend and never look back.

hehe, I wager that is true! I liked that place.

by perspective all these "things" bumpers, armor, skid plate, sliders tire carriers are just tools to do a specific job and that is as basic as you can get for describing why we do what we do ... and after that point we try to blend durablity then styling .... I think when you do those 3 things in a reverse order you limit your ability to do what you have set out to accomplish ... such as life ;)

I really wanted to do that on my FJ build so I could put it on the front or rear depending on what was needed. Never happened though...

Man that would look so cool Mad Max style!! Clear coat that :censor:!!

Also let me know when you want to come by so we can finish your suspension. I think I'm more worried than you are about you driving around like that hahah
