I'm in. Let me know if they have something where we can send a check or PayPal.

ROAD TRIP!

Leaving two weeks from this morning for the West. I have a 2 day post card show in ILL across the river from Hannibal, MO (boyhood home of Mark Twain - Samuel Longhorne Clemens). Wife is flying out to meet me Saturday night and I'll pick her up Sat night in Kansas City, Kansas City here we come ;>)

No real itinerary yet, that's the way we like it. Will go south from KC to Tejas, NM, AZ and maybe the deserts of CA. NV, UT, Moab!, CO, WY, MT and then home. We'll be hitting the National Parks, some desert trails, mild wheeling, etc.

Screw the gas prices! I'm 63 and who knows if one will get another chance. If I do, I'll go back again.

The Garmin will get me to the Midwest, but I need something better to explore offroad out west. I'm considering handheld GPS units. The Magellan that works well with the pricey NatGeo TOPO maps and the Delorme. Whichever I choose, I'd like to be able to upgrade to a tablet/netbook/pc display and not have to reinvest in software all over again. I wouldn't be opposed to skipping the handheld and going right to the pc route.

Any thoughts?

CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO WALLY WORLD! :hillbilly:

I bought a Xplore tablet and loaded Overland Navigator on it with an external GPS mount. I haven't messed with it a ton yet but it's user friendly and quite detailed...Fairly cheap as well.

Anyone UFC fans?
Jake shields vs. GSP, if gsp walks through Jake as easily as he did to coscheck, Dana white needs to put him against Anderson silva

YouTube - National Lampoons Vacation - Holiday Road

My folks have done it twice in the past 3 or 4 years. Drove all the way to Vagas and the Southern Cali. Did the Route 66 thing, Monument Valley, Petrified Forest, and all that kind of stuff, but no trails....they loved it

Edit: At least they are slowly enjoying retirement.

I'm a big fan. I go to a lot of the fights. I'll be at the Toronto fight. GSP will win the decision. He's not a big finisher.

look what my son brought home! He was pretty excited and I can't tell you the last time I saw one.

Initially cheap for $40, but each of the mapping areas are also $40. Costs a lot to cover the entire US dammit.

Looks like the designs that are normally raised are lower than the surrounding metal. Is that true?

There's an old joke about someone being so cheap with spending money that they can squeeze a nickel so tight that the Indian rides the Buffalo. Maybe this is one of those?

Buffalo nickels aren't rare except in circulation, but this one is interesting. Where'd he find it?

it was in the register at Market Basket. Considering it's like 75 years old and been in circulation I'm not surprise some of it has worn off a little around the edges.

Cool find!

I presume your son works at MB based on the post. My son worked at Shaw's during high school and even some at college. My oldest grandson works at Market basket (Demoula's) now. Grocery stores are a great place to learn how to work, develop a work ethic, interact with the public and even pick up some simple skills. Common sense stuff that they don't teach at school anymore.

Ordered the Delorme PN-60 handheld GPS today from the GPS Store. It was $40 less than on the Delorme website. It makes no sense to me that the manufacturer asks more than one of their authorized retailers.

It comes with TOPO North America which includes USGS mapping along with street mapping. It will also interface with a computer and a laptop in the vehicle.

I hope that by the time we get back from my Great West trip, I will actually know how to use it and all the map functions and PC interface. I'm not the most technically savvy guy these days.

I'm not so sure about that, gsp is a great all around fighter,he probably has a touch better stand-up, I think his defence is better but Jake shields ju-jitsu is years ahead of gsp's and he has a ton more experience than gsp, its gonna be a great fight.

I have been using the Delorme GPS units for many years. My PN-20 gave out last year and purchased a PN-30. I have all the RAM mounts and use it on my kayak, mountain bike, motorcycle etc. You realize the PN-60 has SPOT capability including the ability to send text messages via satellite? Cool feature if you need it. The Delorme store in Yarmouth, ME is cool place to stop if you are ever near Portland. The company also has their own Forum manned by their employees to answer questions.
