Geeez how did I miss this thread?

Messing with old Coleman stuff is my other hobby...

Here are a few I have...

My users are a red Nov. 1971 200A Lantern that matches the year of my FJ40, a Sept. 1946 242C Lantern that burns VERY bright as sips fuel, a 3/63 model 502 single burner stove I use for back packing and my favorite camp stove a 1965 425D.

I'm currently working on getting a 1976 413G stove ready to take out to Moab next week. The wife for unknown reasons wants to tent camp in the desert... No arguments from me... ;)

Nice stuff Coolerman! Glad you found this thread too!

Very nice. Coleman's best and most useful model.

Curious as to why is the 413G the best and most useful? Did Coleman simply increase the numbers and letters in the next year or is there some sort of a science? There's a 413g and 425e for sale locally and didn't know which one to pick up.

The correct answer: buy both.

The 413 has the big foot print and more powerful burners.

I like the G because of the round things on the grate, though not all have that. The bars on most coleman grates are a bit too far apart for a small coffee pot and the round grate/bent bars solves the problem. Prior to G and H and later just had straight bars on the grate.

Get both stoves though. The small one is good, not as many BTUs but perfect to carry in your drawer system.

If you look around you may find a 414 Dual Fuel Powerhouse. These are not desired by the Coleman collector types, but they have the foot print of the 413 and an even more powerful burner. Plus, they can run on unleaded in a pinch, and with a Land Cruiser there is always lots of unleaded around. The only thing I can see that makes is less desirable is that the sheetmetal of the case is slightly thinner. Otherwise it's the same old Coleman thing, and what I normally bring camping.

I am embarrassed to say I have a 425B, a 425F, a 413G,a 414 and a 550 Exponent, which is a miniturized 1 burner and no longer made.

Ali-If you get a white gas stove let me know and I'll send you a unique present-maybe. If I can get it to work.

Drew,

I think there is a 12step coleman stove program you can join! Sounds like the guy with the Coleman lantern fetish in ABQ. I'm surrounded by weirdos.....

All ready for the Halloween globe!!!

Major score today. Pics later. Got a L427 in the original box, with an original spare generator also in a cool original box. And the coolest part--it came with a spare external pump.

Build date.......July 1925.

Anyone ever make a cool lantern stand for the backyard or camping?

Backyard one could easily stick in the ground, I could put one on my trailer using the stake pockets on the flatbed.

Damnit, it looks like I need a roll bender to do cool things now..

Thinking about whipping something up for a back-yard fire pit scenario. Would love to see some pics for ideas.

I'm in the process Kurt :)

Dinner last night as we lost power for 5 hours ... Sheesh. Kalifornia. Rains for the 1st time in 4 months and this is what happens.

Dude-I'm glad you have one too. But that isn't a picture of it.

(It's a 426):D

Hey Spike, that's what happens when you live out in the sticks! LOL You have to be prepared when Channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 go on "Storm Watch"!

Oh well, good excuse for a little home camp out.

PS - Looks good!

we had a 30 sec power outage in Vegas too. The boys collected all of my white gas lanterns and scattered them throughout the house... Didn't light any of them tho lol

Yeah, my wife and I were sitting on the couch, in the dark, listening to the Veep debate on a Harbor Freight crank radio - I realized I'm unprepared in that area! And I've gotta say, that the heaviest hail I've seen in 15 years in the SFV !

:o
