@fj40z

I never would have thought of using it that way. Never seen a box for those stoves -- I'll try it with mine. Great bit of info!

Me either @Spike Strip

Matter of fact I was just showing a good friend this exact stove a couple days ago and he asked what it was and I told him the exact thing. Later on that evening when I was putting it back in it’s box I read it and thought to myself “well I’ll be damned”. Couldn’t have been more than 2 days before the question here was asked.

I tried it this evening and it’s actually pretty nice. Here’s a pic and one of the box. I put a red blob on the pic with markup highlighting the line that clued me in.

Scored a pretty sweet 242C today. Can’t wait to get the nickel polished up. Even came with a spare generator, Coleman funnel with the box and a really cool lantern case made from an old produce crate. Build date on this one is 12-49.

@fj40z --- Don't know too much about the guts of those, I've never had mine apart. It's just part of the collection and sits on the shelf... It's just my favorite style and beautiful industrial design... But I'd be happy to help however I can.

Also, got these twins today from the guy who 'borrowed' 'em when he was discharged:

Man that’s some nice Mil Spec goodness!!

Coleman on Steroids...

Twenty years ago I ran across this "lantern" in Baja at a rancho out in the middle of nowhere.
The proprietor lady brought it out to light up her large guest eating area of tables. Found out these are sold by a company that specializes in propane appliances where no or limited electricity exists. These are direct "bolt-on" units with no built in "nanny state" regulator. The mantle you put on looks like a gym tube sock. These are the equivalent of at least five Colemans. Down in Baja if you burn down your ranch from mishandling the lantern that's your problem.

For stoves I went with two of the Butane stoves arrangement. This one puts out up to 15,000 BTUs and has a wind screen and can warmer. Stove burners can be paired up or each one moved around. They are a quick setup. The cans are cheap and last along time. I recently bought a dozen cans for $15.

Forgot to mention one Con... the boiling point for Butane is 30.2 deg. so in cold weather I keep the cans inside before use. If the can gets close to the boiling point it will start to "spit" droplets. Propane boiling point is -43.6 deg.

Tanks for posting up that propane lantern. Never seen anything like it. Probably a good thing to own if you are 25 miles from the nearest Edison power.

Picked both of these up this weekend. The lantern is a 1-61 build date 200A with the tall vent and yellow banded Coleman decal. It was missing the globe but I got it for $3! Cleaned it up today and grabbed a globe from another 200A project and it fired right up! Also scored a really clean 76 red cooler.

Not a Coleman but I did give the ol’ JC Higgins some burn time this evening.

My ho-hum contributions to this thread: I think my parents got some of this stuff new and maybe some of it at garage sales; they've moved to trailer camping so haven't used it and I've kinda taken it all over. Love this stuff, though it seems harder to have an excuse to run the lanterns these days with LED headlamps and such. And all our friends have LED lanterns. None of this stuff is that old compared to other stuff in this thread, but it's all older than me.
220K from 2/80:

425E from 9/76 with some new parts: this one gets the most use:

425E from 2/72, dented but works fine:

So things are progressing. First of all I need to put up the money shots of the 2 425Es, the 220K and the 288:

Now a few weeks ago I decided to read this thread from the beginning. That took a few days. After a once-through I read it again and by now was making a list of what else I needed to add :hmm:

First I found a Coleman folding kitchen for $50, unused. It looked interesting so I bought it. It holds a stove on the side and a lantern off a hook above. Then I found a 2/68 413G on Craigslist for $30. On the same day I found a 426B for $25. When I got there he said he was getting rid of a lantern as well. It was a 7/53 200A, the first one I've ever seen and of which I had heard so much of in this thread. It was beat up, the mantle and globe were both broken, and I was hoping he would throw it in with the 426B. But he asked $20 for it and I was too excited to haggle so went with it. The 426B I got to run with a different cap but it won't run on its own cap so I have to get a new grommet for it. The control knob also doesn't work great so will have to maybe fix that up a bit. A Coleman factory outlet is less than 20 minutes from my work so got some Coleman fuel for $9.99, a new 200A globe for about $10 as well, and some mantles.

Here is the kitchen with the 426B:

Here is the 413G and the 200A running together since I got them the same day, though from different sales:

And here is the 413G already earning its keep:

Then I found another ad that showed a 12/80 413H with a stand for $20. So I went and picked that up. When I got there the guy said he had a lantern to get rid of as well. It was a 12/80 220K with a broken globe and missing mantles. So another trip to the Coleman outlet and a new globe for $10 and I'm into this set for $30. Hopefully that makes up a bit for overpaying for the 426B and 200A, especially since I will probably sell this 220K and 413H since I don't need five stoves and four lanterns.

Still on the hunt for some filter funnels, don't want the plastic ones, wouldn't feel right. And once the 426B is running right I think I will be all set except for maybe another stand or two.

^^^^

Super useful group of gasoline appliances.

Filter funnels are not easy to find. But they are just the right size for filling the 242s which have a smaller fuel cap. You would like a 242. Look for a B or a C.

You likely know this, but your 200A will it inside your 426B, as will the stove stand. That's a good camping unit.

Yes sir Mr. Andy your posts in this thread have been inspiring and very helpful in developing my shopping list! I knew I wanted a 426B or C, there was actually a C for sale the same day as I got my B and for $25 or $30 I should have just picked it up too and chosen the best one to keep! And the stands are a revelation vs. taking up picnic table space as my parents did all growing up and I have continued to do until running across this thread...so thank you and to everyone else who has contributed. I do have to get a shot of everything packed into the 426 as mentioned, but have to clean off the leaky fuel from the filler cap first.
