I've had mine re-done, and they still leak. I sat on my ass regarding this issue all summer. I suspect it's the louvers with mine, and I have them in hand, but I still need to do a definitive leak test. There's a secondary part (duct) behind the louvers that I still don't fully understand since I've never taken that stuff apart.

The plan is to do both

So I didn't know that my belt moulding was painted ar some point. Now I really need to do the doors.

I popped both off and cleaned up under and replaced them. I'm debating replacing the louvers versus trying to seal them.

Yes there's a small spot of rust. While it was apart it sanded it down and hit it with a little Rust-Oleum rust conversion paint. I'll clean it up a little more this summer. This rig is getting handed to my son in a few years and I'm sure he'll trash it, so I'm less concerned.

A gentleman on here just posted an updated link and mud discount for oem parts. Rueben at Capovalley toyota.

Cheaper than partsouq? That's where I get my stuff because it's a jdm diesel.

I doubt it, the last time I checked the 2 main overseas options, the louvers were like $60 something each. the only way state-side can beat that is for larger heavier items with less shipping costs. It's why my exhaust system is being cobbled together from 5 vendors.
Certain body panels, mouldings, lights, etc. are not unique to your jdm rig which I am sure you well know.

I do. But I just default to partsouq due to shipping speed and cost.

I ordered my exhaust (after market) from Australia so I know all about shipping lol

So after replacing both belt mouldings I pulled the ole girl in the garage to dry it out, clean it and check for rust from water incursion.

I also pulled the louvers and resealed them.

While it was out I shampooed the carpet. But other than the brown water, I saw no difference in the carpet. Oh well.

I found 1 small patch of rust that I sanded and cleaned up.

These two carpet images are before and after. And I have no idea what that s*** is that's embedded.

I sanded the rust off the jack and hit it with a little paint too.

Here's where the rust was, which is basically under the wettest part of the carpet.

This rustoleum is what I use and then I prime and paint.

I also have been fighting a little smoke. More than I think is acceptable. Today I adjusted the base fuel screw and then pulled all the intake ducting and removed the oil. I'm going to route the pcv hose under the rig and see if it improves it. If it doesn't I'll send my injectors out for service.

I also snapped a pic of the turbo and based on the fins it may be time to get a rebuilt unit.

I’m no expert but is it normal to get wear on the fins? Is that just from particulate in the air?

Some wear. But there's a nick in one picture.

i saw that little nick. Is this just what happens to old turbos? I’ve never had a turbo…almost bought a turbo 22-re mini truck, but I was too slow.

I have never taken apart a higher mile turbo.

I've owned a ton of turbo cars and diesels

I’m super fascinated, mostly because I do t have any turbos and they just sound cool.

I have nothing to ad regarding the turbo wear. Now that you've had an old louver out, and installed a new one what are your thoughts? I have many doubts that simply replacing the louver will stop whatever annoying leak I still have back there. (all new 3/4 window runs, gaskets and belt molding on my truck already).

Sometimes it's the louver and sometimes it's the seal around the vent behind it.

Mine was recently sealed it appeared so I just worked on the louver.

Best bet if you can't find the leak is take the interior out and spray with water.

Noted. I need to order the "ducts" as well.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Took a longer trip. About 275 miles.

Pulled into town and the power steering was whining so I went to check the fluid and saw this

Based on the level of the fluid in the engine bay and fluid on the reservoir I assumed I had a bad lid. I replaced it and drove it around. Still had a mess.

I did some mud searching after a member mentioned the seam might be leaking.

I didn't realize the reservoir was 2 piece

So I pulled the reservoir and checked.

I saw a tab that wasn't tight and a fair bit of mess along the seam

The gasket/seal thing was hard as a rock.

I'd read of people having success with fipg so I cleaned everything up and added a little fipg to both side of the seal and closed it back up.
