So if a panel or body part is black it is a new OEM body piece. They all come in Toyota e-coat primer in black. We are leaving that primer for the most part. If you see gold or silver, it is weld through primer, most of that is being removed. Various other spot primers were used during all the metal + body work to seal things up at that time.
When the Troopy got sand blasted they were instructed to go "easy" on it which they did. That left some original paint and primer here and there. We have been removing that as we work through the prep process as well. The underside was never primed like the exterior and interior, probably found back on page 20ish of the build thread. So the underside is a bit dirty and so forth, again going the extra mile to clean and prep for the final round of primer.
Any ways it has been an extremely LONG road getting this body back to rust free and rebuilt, 76 pages at this point! We are taking a bit of extra care now in the way of prep to insure it is sealed up and good to go for many years. It is always in the prep when it comes to paint and body work for your final finished product.
Really excited to see this Cruiser finally done with 85-90% of the body work soon. Like I say it has been one long arse journey to get here and as I also say we are making 110% sure it is ready for this stage. I sure am going to crack a beer when it is done though and say, holy sh*t, look at that!!
I bought a GoPro not long ago to improve my video qualities. Will do some videos with it as we move forward through this whole body resto' process. We won't be painting it but we have done most of the prep for paint. It will need a final block out sanding wise on the exterior before paint but that is about it.
Cheers
