Are there any advantages of the 7M cover over machining a 1HD-T cover? Does the 7M cover have the correct inlet/outlet for 1HD-T?

Inlet/outlet are the same OD for both.
The advantage of a 7MGTE housing over machining a 1HD-T housing is it's already done, one less expense, one less thing for someone to balls up.
Using 1HD-FTE front housing will mean the waste gate actually will fit with no mucking about. Using a 7MGTE housing requires a bit of jiggery pokery to get the wastegate sorted.
It also means you're not opening up the turbo, so no chance of accidental damage to compressor wheel blades.

There's nothing wrong with using the 1HD-FTE front housing. It's just designed for bolt on inlet piping index of push fit hoses.
You could either cut and adapt the stock 1HD-FTE piping, have adapters made to suit hoses, or utilize the 1HD-FTE piping to connect up a FMIC intercooler.

You can have the 1HD-FTE front housing and piping I didn't use.

I have one installed on my HZJ105, but it will be a couple of months before I can give it a good test.

got an eye candy to share ( pic of the installed setup ) you had it on stock form ( other than the downpipe mods needed ) ?

@R buell Sounds like something is definitely not right.

The 16g turbine is quite a bit smaller than a 1HD-T turbine, and slightly smaller than a 1HD-FTE, and its a better design than both. It should boost at a lower RPM.
The compressor is larger, so even if you were seeing the same boost pressure, you will be getting a greater volume of air.

Do you have a link to the mamba turbo you used? They have different sized exhaust housings, not all are ideal for low end performance.

What engine do you have?
What has been done to tune it?
Auto or manual trans?
What other mods have you done? Exhaust? Intercooler? Gauges?
What EGTs are you seeing?

How does vane control work on the Garrett you've linked?
It won't be a bolt in replacement. Exhaust housing is different.

GTX Turbo TOYOTA Land Cruiser 1HD-T 4.2L 2.4" TD05H-16G w/ 7cm
I have a standard 1HDT. no exhaust or tune changes. normal air intake. Manual.
I have check for leaks. I saw the video of the Mumba rev counter and psi and mine is simiar. The boost is almost 1-2 floor down under 1500.
Asked mumba but they had no suggestions. I have re plumed the turbo and taken one section of exhaust out to smooth things but no change.
I now have the option of CT26 with 7mgte comp wheel and 36-0 thrust or FTE turbo of a guy here with 1 year warranty.
I am not looking for a speed machine but a bit more low donw oomph. The old CT26 was fine but I got greedy and made my sefl think it was puffing white smoke.
I would like some expert opinion on sticking in a FTE CT26 and anyone can have my mumba turbo ..

You really should be tuning the pump with a new turbo before giving up on it.

If I install my MMP turbo without touching the pump settings will I get worse performance at all? I was thinking it would just be running based on the same amount of fuel as before but with lower EGTs with the wastegate spring set at 18psi. I am installing an EGT gauge at the same time so if I need to tune it I can and will just have to retune it once my intercooler build is done.

I would not think that performance would be any worse with the same fueling. If anything it should increase with a more efficient turbo.
You will not be fully utilizing the potential of the setup but I don't think it should hinder it. You may not even reach the waistegate 18psi with the original fuel settings, I'm not sure.

First thing to do is tune it.
Power is derived from fuel burnt. Blowing in more air will not necessarily make any difference. Tossing out the turbo without tuning what you have is madness.

As an example, I recently fitted a turbo to my non turbo HZJ105. I did not alter fueling for first start up and first shake down drive. It drive more it less like it did without the turbo. Adding more fuel woke it up dramatically, it will be a different completely different car to drive.

That was my initial thought but then wondered if that thinking was correct. I would love to get it on and maybe have similar performance with lower EGTs till my other projects are ready to go on the engine

I have to agree that there is a problem...tuning or other wise. I have the 18g version of the same Mamba turbo. My pump was rebuilt and setup by Yotahead for the higher flow of my 18g and was pretty close out of the box. I have 6000k on my setup, fiddled once the fuel pin and am pretty happy. Take your rig to an expert for a second opinion. Fuel and air filter are new I presume? If the Mamba performs poorly surely other hi flow options will be similarly troubled.

I got mine the other day too. Looking forward to getting it installed! :)
