Hi guys,
Anyone here do the modification to make the temperature gauge more sensitive?

I'm thinking about doing this instead of adding an aftermarket one.

My question to you all is what resistor combination did you use, 50/110ohm or the 100/150ohm? Knowing that socal is basically a desert and our summer temps climb high I want to get your input on which level of sensitivity is working well for you.

Thanks,
Brad

Try searching in 80's tech. I remember seeing posts on this.

Yeah, I got the full mod off the FAQ and read posts from different people who used the higher ohm resistors and the lower ohm resistors. Just wanted to get feedback from anyone local with their experience after the mod.

I don't know anything about higher or lower ohm resistors, but it did the mod almost two years ago. I think it's a great mod. It livens up the 'dead' gauge.

I have been meaning to do that mod myself but have procrastinated. I hadn't even thought about using different Ohm resistors for our climate vs Raventai's.

I know, when I read that people were using different combo's it threw me. I think I'm going for the sensitive set up...rather that way than not sensitive enough I suppose.

Why not just get a scangauge?
We poor unfortunate '94 folk cant partake in the luxuries of OBDII, though I do get a TOYOTA grill :flipoff2: ;)

I get OBDII and a TOYOTA GRILL. :flipoff2:

Just buy a SCanguage II and you're SET

Whats up Sam, hey we need to get a beer sometime. You work in commercial real estate too, we probably know some of the same people.

Regarding scangauge, can I still use scangauge II with OBDI? I didnt think that worked

Brad

Definitely on the Beer and I didn't realize that you had a 94. By the way it goes unsaid but I'll say it anyway, if you ever need a hand don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Sweet, you REALLY wanted to yota grill, I like it

Thanks. Actually it kind of fell into my lap. Boston Mangler really wanted the sombrero grill when he was rehabbing his 80 and I offered him mine since I didn't care either way. Now that I have it switched and I blacked it out I am really glad I have the old style.

I am looking forward to see how your mod works out with the more sensitive resistors, then I don't have to be the guinea pig. ;p

I must've missed something. There are two resistors and one better suits our climate? Is this a "new" addition to the mod?

Just pull out $200 from your ATM and hand it to me. My resistors were free thanks to a friendly Mudder!!!

Oh and by the way I have the first combo resistors and have been meaning to put them in for about a year now. I may be more interested in this since by tacometer was bouncing this morning while driving down the freeway. Now I have to research what's up with that! :meh:

I don't know about a "new" addition to the mod but I can only imagine that different resistors would have a different effect. I have to admit though that I haven't researched the technicals of this mod to fully understand the difference in effect and why one set of resistors would be better than the other. That is why I was going to let bpenn1980 get it all worked out first and then do mine. ;p

Bought 10 of each resistor so you guys can all do the mod :D

Decided to go with the "sensitive" setup....time will tell

I haven't been on Mud for a while. Scan gauge II ??? What is that:confused:

It is an OBD II scanner that plugs into the black port at the very bottom of your dash just left of the steering column and reads, displays and clears check engine lights. Great diagnostic tool.
