@Enigma how did you know? Thanks exactly what Rob was describing to me the other day!

@AJAEbj42 no worries at all. Glad to help out and it was a stark reminder about how much I have forgotten since I did mine in 1999/2000.

Andrew sent me this video. Was he hinting at something?.....

Engine is out. Just need to power-wash and grind off a couple of rusty bits still attached to the frame and then the frame is ready to go for repair at Jason's.

My fuel tank had a small leak as well (which I suspected) and was confirmed when blasted; getting that repaired at Valley Radiator in Chilliwack. Valley Radiator | Cooling Systems Chilliwack | Home . Will probably take my rad there and get it serviced as well (who knows when it was last done!)

Yeah, we got about 4". Winter has overstayed its welcome, even my kids are tired of the snow...

Been a while since an update! All the body parts are stripped, epoxy coated, and painted. Now the reassembly begins. The plan is for me to start it and then send it over to Rob Millson for his magic finishing.

Very happy with how all the parts turned out, but for those thinking about taking this on, don't underestimate how much rust repair is required in these old trucks! If you have the skills to do it yourself (and time!), then that is a cheaper option. If not, expect to spend some $$$. But it's worth it, to save another of these old girls!

Big thanks to Jason as well for doing the frame repair in the rear for me; looks better than new!

So, now for something a little different that is taking most of my limited spare time! :)

Our 15yr old daughter Abi has been wanting an early 60's Chev/GMC truck for a while. We've searched for almost a year and finally found one in her limited budget ($1600 USD for this one). The deal was that Abi buys the truck, Dad will cover expenses to get it legal in BC. (We're about even!). This one came out of Hood River Oregon. Runs, drives, stops, and steers from time-to-time. :)

Been working on getting this ready for the out-of-province mechanical; has some tail light issues and wipers don't work, some rust holes in the floors. 235 Straight Six, 4 Speed (granny low non-syncro first), It's 1961 with a '62 grill. It has the original engine with 145,000 miles, generator, and get this, positive ground.

For the money, it's a pretty solid truck compared to what we had been looking at this past year. (And one more thing, we haven't broken one rusted bolt during any dissassmbly work so far (just undid them with no torch, oil, nothing); can't say that about our BC Toyotas!)

Thank goodness parts are plentiful in aftermarket online.

Right on Rob, it's looking amazing!
I dig the colour, it looks like a 50's Fender stratocaster.

I am somewhat heartened to know a 15 year old girl wants a 56 year old pickup. Awesome.

And I agree with these guys, who are almost as old as the truck ^

Yesterday, Georgia made the trip over to Millson's place for re-assembly! Thanks Greg and Derryk (who came with me) for the help with loading!

Just some numbers for those planning a similar project in the future...

Ferry (two people): $290 and change each way
Truck and Trailer rental: $381 and change (one day and mileage from Abby)
Fuel: $120

Abi and I visited Rob yesterday (also to pick up the box of shirts!). She's coming along well under Rob's careful touch!

Millson's attention to detail is so far beyond what I am capable of.
