4.7 gears

What do you want to do with the truck? Is it a daily driver? What kind of trails do you run, or want to run?

I plan on buying a winch, and building a front bumper. Buying my spare tire, and building a spare tire carrier on my rear bumper. And what ever left will go into the suspension.

4.7 gears for sure!

Do you realize how bad an idea it is to ask us how to spend YOUR MONEY?

I'm not going to knock my 4.7 TC, at least not too much, but ... I would double up if I had to do it over again. In fact, I have the bits to do the job as soon as my motivation kicks in ... or something in the clutch fails.

New exhaust ... header, 2.25" pipe/muffler.

Fuel injection via a 22RE or even better, a 3RZFE. Probably more than your budget, though, depending.

Have you re-geared your diffs?

Power steering/high steer/cross-over steering.

New seats.

Winch with bumper.

How do you use the truck?

I decided to go 4.7 with a single case before duals. My 4runner is the only vehicle I have now, so I need to keep the downtime to a minimum. I'll swap in the 4.7 case once its ready, installing the gears in my spare time. Then I can install the dual case adapter parts on the other case once I am ready to step it up to dual cases. I will probably be installing dual cases next winter, if not sooner :)

With dual cases, you need to consider the added cost of a dual case crossmember and driveshaft work. Plus the added cost of buying another tcase for the crawl box.

well i have 4.37s now but i think lower wouldn't hurt. right now i live in pdx so the there are hills and the trails are muddy up hill and muddy. i was talking to a buddy he said 22re or chevy 350.
i was i thinking rebuild 22r. but i will be moving to az so imagine the trails are rocky

4.88 or 5.29s
5.29s seem like the better upgrade but i have not heard anything good about them. like realy weak pinion .

4.88 dont seem like that big of bang for the buck

In my opinion, 5.29's are going to be to much for 33's. I like to have highway gearing, and get decent gas millage while turning the tires at 75-80mph. Most recommend 4.88s for 33's and 5.29s for 35's. I personally would run 4.56s with 33's and 4.88s with 35's.

Currently my truck has 4.30 gears and I am happy with them pushing 35's. 4.88s would be nice, but I am putting my money into other parts of the truck first. On the trail I will get my gearing from the tcase :)

It also depends where you live, if you are in the mountains you might need the 5.29s.

5.29 are too much for 33's. I ran 4.88 in my extra cab with 33's and the rpm was too high on the freeway, but I could live with it. I have 4.56 in the 4Runner with 33's and it's fine.

i was thinking about swaping in some trail gear leafs spings in the front and ditching the procomp. anyone useing trail gear? is the any thing better for the money
