Hell its not just the strand you need to be careful. For all you novices there's alittle thing called the witch's eye that can gobble you up in an instant. Came across this fellow at Pismo a few months ago. And this is what happened with a dedicated sand machine! Please be careful! Cause sand might look soft, but it ain't!:crybaby:

Two Heims and they are good to roll, thats a nice buggy though.

:)Actually that DOES look like that would be all they need. But seeing it in person he bent the right A-arm, twisted both king shocks into junk $$$!!!!! and tweeked the steering wheel at the base from the impact even though it doesn't look like it. while they were waiting for the tow truck the guy's girfriend said she lost her pink iPod.
My wife and daughter went back later to dig for it. Didn't find it but did find one of the guy's 150.00 Laserstar light buried in the sand IN perfect condition:D. Now I just need to find one more to make a pair!

The word is in. I can't make it. :crybaby: The Alberta gov't gave me a permit to do some work on a project prior to snow fall and since I'm the only one in our company qualified to do the work it looks like I'm foregoing Cali and heading to Beaverlodge instead. FM! I was looking forward to seeing my old BJ73 and packing the 77 full of sand.... oh and of course, seeing Jim & Katherine again. Have fun & do some sand bowls for me.

Bummer!

Ugh. Today is my first and only day off since Canadian thanksgiving (20 days or so ago), been putting in 90hr weeks. Next day off is Nov. 10th. I'm salary so OT gets banked at straight time which sucks but it could be worse and I can't rightly complain with 7+ paid weeks vacation already this year. SNT would have capped off a stellar wheeling year but I'll make it down to see my American cronies sooner than later I hope.

Fly down and take one of my rigs.

Too kind! If snow flies and the ground freezes before Wed. I might just take you up on that. :) Let me know where you'll be wheeling next season....

Bummer, you better start making plans for next year or I'll be coming up North to kidnap you.

You guys are making me nervous. Hey Rob, save me some virgin sand to drive on. I'm having visions of the sahara after reading your posts. Or at the least stand by to advise.

dude, you will be heading down with three other vehicles...

we won't leave you behind, no worries.

Public service announcement for sand newbies: :)

Folks, for those of you coming for the first time and wondering about getting stuck in the sand, we've all been there (or at least the smart ones have :) ) and have asked the questions and worried a bit. Don't let that bother you. Bottom line is that most/all LCs will NOT get stuck. I have only come close to being stuck once in several years with the 80, while going just about everywhere and trying difficult passages, and that was at the bottom of a very deep steep hole and because I didn't feel like lowering the tire pressure much (which is a pain if you have to go to town every day). As soon as I lowered the pressure seriously I was able to climb out. (Now, of course, we all know that the locked 80s are the best cruisers... :D .)

But no matter, if you are ever going to be stuck in sand, this is the place to do that. There will be hundreds of cruisers and other trucks going around everywhere all the time. It would be incomprehensible if you didn't get spotted very quickly and everybody is more than willing to help. If you don't want to wait a bit and want to explore the back dunes, just get a Ham radio to call for help. Either way you will be pulled out quickly. So I'd say this is the perfect time to explore the limits of your sand driving and try new things that will serve you well elsewhere when you'll be alone and can't afford a mistake.

No worries about the getting stuck IMO. But rolling is not inconceivable if you do something stupid. But that too is easily avoided with some very simple rules that have been elaborated on here many times. Main one in my opinion: always go straight up and down the dunes, never sideways and you'll be fine.

If you have never driven in dunes, you have no idea how much fun this is. You'll have a great time. Guaranteed! :)

Be sure the board is 6 ft long by 6" high with bright color lettering for better contrast.

The one at the bottom is 3ft long and 3" high so the lettering is unreadable.

Home Depot/ Lowes have a fence board for $2 or 3, a perfect board.

Cheers,

Family and I are heading out of the San Jose/Campbell area around 10-ish on Friday for a 1-ish arrival time (may come down Thursday night but that is up in the air). Staying off the beach at the PACIFIC PLAZA RESORT HOTEL right on Pier St. We will be in black 80 with bullbar.

Anyone up for some morning and/or afternoon surfing? Ive never surfed down there so not really sure where the spots are. I have heard next to the pier and just up the coast from the pier. Planning to bring a longboard and a HP fish.
