I have a 1998 with the two 4” woofer enclosure. I am looking to see if the later model enclosure with the single 6.5” woofer will fit in my truck? I know the sound isn’t ideal with these type subs, but I really don’t want a large sub box sitting back there, at least not right now. I will replace the 6.5” stock speaker with one of better quality.

Thanks for any input.

Hey Dwight,

Did you ever find a solution to your question? I too have a 98 and it's time to replace all of the speakers and I'm looking for some direction. I want to replace the interiors with coaxials and would consider running a 5 channel amp and retain the factory subwoofer location.

Yes, the later model enclosure will fit. It’s still a crappy solution though. I’ve got a rattle so I can’t put much bass into it. I need to get back into it and see if it can be improved a little.

A custom fiberglass enclosure where the tire jack goes is the best solution for good bass without sacrificing too much space. Very expensive so I just went with a single JL audio 12tw3 shallow mount in manufactures truck box. Sounds incredible! 😀 👍

You could go with dual smaller woofers like 8’s or 10’s build a box that is downfirinf but having smaller woofer would allow you to put it on the floor between the second and third and out things on top of it. Imagine the sub above turned upside down but built with legs three or so inches off the ground.

Also this enclosure fits nice upright behind one of the 3rd row seats allowing my 4 kids to ride without taking any of their legroom.
