So I started up my Pig yesterday and today and noticed a strange high pitched noise coming from the engine bay. It only makes the noise when I depress the accelerator. Engine revs dont matter. Then once I have been driving for 15 min or so at 60 mph it stops and sounds normal. I thought it could be coming from a leak in the intake so I checked in between the carburetor and the manifold and around there. But was unable to find anything. I could have also not found anything since I didn't have any help and couldn't actually hear the noise while under the hood.

Does any one have an idea as to what could be causing the noise?

Thanks,

Its not the alternator I just had it tested last week.

I dont know about the throw out bearing.....

And if it was a cat I would be ecstatic.

To test the intake seal, just spray wd-40 around the seals and listen for a change in idle.

If it will do it when stopped, have the wife depress the acc and listen for it with a wooden dowel

A wooden dowel???? as in place the dowel on various places of the engine and put it up to my ear??

Yes, and make sure you are taking video of the whole thing...:D

Thanks Ben.

Maybe you could come over and take the pictures for me. :flipoff2:

I took off the air filter cover while the engine was running and noticed a lot of noinse coming out of the tube that connects the air intake to the air pump. Is it typical for the sound coming out of the air pump it to be noticably louder than the engine?

I have just recently thought about doing that. The only crappy thing is that I had Jim C. rebuild my carb like 4 or 5 months ago and now I want to go emissions free. I kind of wish I had him modify if for that application.

I'm almost certain it's comming from your intake and exaust manifold, they run together and cause alot of heat which causes them to warp.I'm hearing it on my 40 now and then for the first couple of minutes when it's cold also.Back in the 80's my father and I had either the intake or exaust manifold(can't remember)replaced on 2 40's and 1 60 with the 2f motor.I've talked to other guys who had success machining them and a new gasket.I'll try to find out which one but I'm pretty sure it was the exaust manifold.Your symptoms are right on for what that is.
