In the MUD...OUTSIDE the box
Looking out for fellow, honest, cruiserheads:

A few weeks ago there was a tailgate for sale on Ebay. A light blue, 3-hinge from a '67 LPB in good shape.

Well, it seems the tailgate was stolen from TLC4x4.

Being that MUD is the definitive online location for cruiserheads like myself, I thought it best to post here.

If any fellow MUDers come across this tailgate, please know that it is stolen property and should be returned to TLC4x4....

Any input as to its whereabouts is greatly appreciated.

Do you know that it was stolen for a fact? Did someone at TLC tell you that firsthand..using the words STOLEN? Do you know that person's name?

Stolen is a very serious word to use if you don't know all the facts.

If the tailgate is the one that was auctioned simultaneously with other 45 parts, including the bed and taillights, then I have heard a very different story about that tailgate............FROM THE PERSON THAT LEFT TLC WITH IT!!!!!!!

"STOLEN" is EXACTLY what TLC4x4 told me. They had NO IDEA what happened to it and the owner, Jonathon Ward, was furious. I was told they would prosecute whoever took the tailgate.

The ONLY FACT is that I bid, won, and PAID for the tailgate off Ebay.

Now if TLC has been feeding me s***, then that's a different story all together. But, I seriously doubt it.

Look man, I'm not tryin to start anything. But there is definitely someone who is being shady....

So, what is the story????? Or the facts as you have them?????

what state did the ebay description say it came from?

I am guessing ebay was contacted about this fallen thru deal...what did they send ya? any info on the guy?

what was his ebay handle?

Jonathan wouldn't lie about something like that...he can get them new (repro) :)
I would be upset also if i were him...i hope it shows up and we find out who it is

it was TLC that was selling the LPB gate, I saw the auction, sure it was in CA at TLC

hard to imagine someone walking off with it at TLC and I also find it hard to imagine JW is lying about it..........what a wierd deal.

Aargh! It has taken me over 15 minutes just to fire up the old Windows 98 dialup at work to deal with this. This is NOT how I want or need to spend my workday. But after I got a phone call about this, it was the right thing to do.

The only reason that I have not said anything more, is to give TLC a chance to set the record straight themselves. I am not in the habit of putting words in other people's mouths, and especially not that of a fellow business owner. If TLC chooses to let their current version of events stand, or leave any shadow of doubt over my friends, then I will tell you the facts as I know them to protect the reputation of my friends.

The truth will set you free.

BTW, did you see the thread on the bed and gate in the 45FS section? This was NOT a secret at any point. We are all friends here.

Best,

Mark A.

Dude- not cool! If TLC sold it to the guy who bought the remainder of the bed, and still had the auction up on eBay, NOT COOL! Cash does talk, but eBay is a valid auction that should stand. That tailgate belongs to 1tontoy! Shouldn't have ever sold it to 65-FJ45! Read the thread, stolen my ass, damnit!

65FJ45 even said that he missed out on the tailgate earlier on in the thread, and now he has one from TLC? Yeah, the planets were in line my ass!

Can someone lay out this story for me. I always like to know who to do biz. with and not do biz with. I don't understand what happened here, some one please clarify the chain of events and the outcome of this.

well, one thing i can tell you guys is that mike aka 65-fj45 is a stand up guy and always has been. i have known mike for many years and can not say a bad thing about him. not one.

also, i have never had any bad dealings with jonathan and or TLC and have not heard of any. jonathan has built up his reputation for many years and is well respected so something like this is sure to get his goat.

i completely understand 1tontoy's frustration and dismay. i'm sure somebody is in hot water about this crappy deal right now. i would'nt wanna be the person responsible for this mess. i doubt this was done with jonathan's knowledge.:frown:

X2 ... It would have been nice to be a fly on the wall

Orange- I'm not saying anything negative, as I'm not the one involved. But just check out the threads, and do the research. I think 1ton (as rightful winner of the auction) deserves to have the tailgate.

"Thru some act of luck" come on.....Not cool! TLC seems like a first class shop, but its kinda odd that the tailgate went missing, and sure enough 65' has it now! Lets take a dose of reality here....sure the 'Almighty dollar" talks in all business deals. That being said, the tailgate should've never been presented to '65 as being up for grabs, or even for sale! TLC should have told him that it was on eBay, and that the auction should have been made known to anyone that was looking at the bed.

Maybe some one should have unbolted it before they helped load the bed on the customers truck?

All I know is what I've read in the threads.

many ways to resolve

I know when I as there later that week to pick up a fender, there is a red bed and tailgate there, and also, as has been stated, TLC was importing the repro ones from Panama (which are excellent quality, although the TLC guy indicated they dont deal with Paul anymore), so I suppose there are a few options of how to make things right. I have confidence that TLC will make it right if their person screwed it up.

By the way, I saw the cab off of the truck that matches the disputed tailgate. Very nice! Also looked over the one off of the red one I mentioned, both very nice, if anyone is looking for one.... might try to talk TLC into selling.

only thing to make it right would be tlc finding another tailgate in like condition to settle the ebay issue. there would still be the suspicion over the original tailgate, but, at least they could say they made good on the deal.
