So I spent a little time in the shop tonight, and this fell off.

The head gasket was wet around the first two cylinders, but I really didn't see any catastrophic failure in the gasket.

First pic is 1,2 second is 3,4 and third is 5,6

I had a little more time today:

Painted the the head, I installed a new breather for the transfer case, and smoothed out the bottom of my new front axle.

I have not pulled my original transfer breather, how was it?
And what thread did you replace it with? Gonna use a bend the, or does it clear the chassis?
I've got 3in ish above the case with 2in bodylift.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using IH8MUD app.

I just twisted the old breather off, redrilled and tapped for 1/4" fine thread.

I also have lots of room above due to a body lift. For right now I'm going to stay with a straight piece, but if it does break I'll replace it with an angled one.

Soooo..... I was browsing the interweb today at work and happened to come across one of these on the super cheap.

http://www.eaton.com/ecm/groups/public/@pub/@eaton/@roadranger/documents/content/rr_trsl-0116.pdf

I know that it is quite a bit heavier than a NV4500HD but in terms of being bulletproof I don't think I can beat it. Plus being $500 it would be a lot cheaper than a NV4500HD.

Any thoughts? Good/Bad/Am an idiot for even thinking about this?
This would be going behind the 6BT, not the 2F in case anyone might not have figured that out.

I don't understand how 5-8 work... is there another shifter that puts you into high-high range or something? Never heard of that transmission but it sounds pretty nifty.

To get to 5-8 what you do is right before shifting from 4 to 5 you activate a lever on the shifter/dash and then is changes the gearing in the secondary box. It's pretty sweet.

Super Low-Low is 14.XX, that with the NP205 puts me at an approx 120:1 crawl ratio.

That thing bolts up to a NP205 and the 6BT? It'd be bomb proof, let alone bullet-proof, it weighs almost 700 lbs!! It's pretty long though at ~31".

If you're prepared to run the spring needed to support the additional weight and the length will work with your driveline, I say go for it.

The NV4500HD is 27" long so its not too much longer than that. The only thing is I would need to run a divorced NP205.

Sooo tempting though.

nice build wish i had the room that you got for working on things. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, it really is nice having all of that room.

So I picked up the Eaton Transmission for $500.
Considering the core price on one of these is $1000. The worst case is I sell it for at least $500 profit.

All the gears work very smoothly. Its pretty heavy, probably over 500 pounds but as can be seen by the 2" input there is no way this transmission could be hurt by the 5.9 I'm planning on putting in front of it.

Its amazing the deals you can get when you combine free time at work and the internet.

I also buttoned up the head gasket replacement tonight.

Cleaned up head installed on the block and awaiting the new remflex gasket for the exhaust.

The coolest thing is the super low gearing available and the gearing choices.

The lo-lo is on the transmission is 14.56 :1, giving me a final crawl ratio of 117:1 without a doubler. If I converted a np203 to a divorced input and mated that to an np205 it would be 234:1, but that's ridiculous.
