Agreed, move it back a bit. If the hanger ends up being under the open section of frame, make sure you box it in.

I moved them back a bit today, right now the shackles are at 60 degrees.

I figure with the settling and the addition of a front bumper and possibly a winch it should be pretty good.

It felt pretty smooth with me bouncing on the frame horns too.

Started the SOA on the front axle. Cut the ruffstuff perches to fit.
Took some finessing but overall went pretty smooth. Set the pinion angle to 15 degrees, as measured for the DC front driveshaft.

Still have to do the Cut and Turn but I should be able to get that finished tomorrow.

In terms of Caster, what should I be aiming for? I have heard 5 degrees is pretty common for larger tires and whatnot.

Nice work today.

I like what I see! :D

Cut and turn is done, and axle is back where it belongs.

All thats left to do is rebuild it and it will be able to roll and steer on its own again.

More shots:
Couldn't get the preload right on the passenger side knuckle so I called it a night and will try to tackle this on the weekend.

The new ARP studs look nice though.

Those studs do look nice. Keep it up man, you're almost there.

One side finished.
While I appreciated learning how every aspect of the axle works, I hope the driver side goes together smoother/

Man, you've got a lot of leafs up front. You're going to think it's to stiff, I guarantee it. Take 3-4 leafs out before you get everything back together, trust me.

That's just the stock rear leaf pack with an AAL.
They seem to be pretty supple, plus with the added weight of a bumper/winch they should be pretty nice.

If not I can always pull some leaves. My main goal is to get it rolling so its not in the way during busy season.

Hy-steer is in. It will be adjusted once I get some tires on.
The only thing is I need to cannibalize a front stud off of the other axle I have.
I was planning on tearing it down for spares later but I guess its time to do it now.

they're the rears so they're longer, might also be off a 62, I bet they'll ride pretty nice.

Yup you pretty much nailed it. FJ62 rears with an long AAL.

And tires are on the truck now.

It really changes the way it looks. I need to get a better camera too, these cell phone pictures don't do it justice.
