Step by Step Scion HU t1819 HU install in LC Radio

for those that want the headphone jack of the stock AUX connector to function, a simpler and possibly plug and play option might be something like this:

http://cpc.farnell.com/startech/usbint5pin24/cable-usb-idc-motherboard-header/dp/CS23999

All five pins on the aux side of the toyota dash plug assembly are needed since its a switching plug that the radio uses to sense a change in a series/parallel resistor internal to the jack.

IIRC on my 1819 install, the five pins on the 20 pin connector on the "adapter harness(20-28 pin) and the 5 pins on the Toyota dash plug are in line (not on two different rows) so this should work. you MAY NEED TO RE-PIN the order of the wires on one end.

I DID NOT USE THIS, but used a much more troublesome connector pair and think this might be a better solution.

SIDE NOTE:
I tried the mic listed here in various locations in the truck with a piece of duct tape while calling. TEST this and find the best solution for your bluetooth phone.

Anywhere near the cluster on the dash gave bad feedback.
Near the vents was noisy with fan blowing through dash.
Left corner of windshield gave great results for driver, but pass pickup was poor.
on the rearview mirror tab works for both driver and pass but picks up a bit more feedback from speakers, and is a "sharper, louder"(per my GF) sound...

YMMV...

Love this head unit! The manual you can find online does suck though and does not cover all options on the actual headunit so play around.

There is some space behind the radio, maybe an inch or two.

I am taking it apart tomorrow to install the CDL switch, so I will take a look.

Update: looks like there is about 2 inches behind the radio HU ... Remember that this is after the HU is moved forward 3/8.

Thank you! Looks VERY tight for an almost 9" long CB plus the connections. If (when) I get around to the CDL switch, I will take some more time to look at it, I won't make a project of it by itself though.

So I picked one of these bad boys up, and wanted to make sure I'm understanding a few things about this. First, am I correct in understanding that, with the antenna adapter, you wouldn't need any other adapters for a LC install to get the basic thing working? My other question is, I tried searching for pt546-00101-ch to get the mic hooked up, but came up empty. Could someone confirm that P/n? And do I only need that adapter just to hook up the mic?
Thanks in advance.

pt546-00101-ch (this is a 20 to 28 pin adapter that allows you to plug in the mic.
pt546-74120mc (this is a prius mic)

This is what you need! this will make the mic work with the BT feature of that HU

Trouble is, I can't seem to find said adapter anywhere...doesn't seem to pop on any of the interweb searches. Got a source?

Nice write up. Looks like a clean set up too. I'll have to check it out in person sometime.

Thanks. It does take some time, but nothing really that difficult.

Okay, after some searching I found pt546-00120-ch...but nothing for the part number originally listed. Looks like pt546-00120ch is a 20 to 28 pin adapter...can anyone confirm that?

My mistake. I corrected my original post. The 20 to 28 is pt546-00120-ch.

Got it. So, soldering in a usb cable should get the ipod working. Satellite seems to be a little tougher.i am looking to use Sirius as well but the kits I've found seem to exclude this h/u unless I'm stuck on stupid, which happens often. Im just trying to make sure I can utilize all the awesome before i hack into my dash and ( of yet) unmolested t1819 unit.

Alright, thanks for all the hard work you all put in on this. I really probably wouldn't have gone down this road if it wasn't for all the folks who did it first and were willing to share the wealth. So, I got a bunch of connectors from Josh at Lowe Toyota, and hammered this out with little issue. I opted to mount behind the factory bezel, and removed very little plastic from the front in case I decide to go with a standard double din in the future.

Sound is pretty good with the Kicker 6 1/2" front/ 5 3/4" rears I have set up, and I'll report back on the bluetooth and ipod once those harnesses come in. I like the OEM feel and look, and the features are nice, though it doesn't have a lot of adjustability in sound past the basic bass/treble/balance/fade. Overall, I think it's a cool option. Definitely not cheaper than aftermarket, but cool. And probably has the added benefit of attracting zero attention from theives:)

Great job. I have heard of several folks buying extra trim pieces and cutting those up for the same reason you gave. Keep your woody in a safe place so you have options.

Just finished this up in my '93. It takes a little more work to get it to fit than in the 95-97's. I had to space the head unit over to the right by installing a double stack of washers between the bracket and the head unit on the left side, and then slotted the bolt holes in the bracket on the right side with a round file. Some additional grinding is required on the brace in the dash that that the bracket bolts to on the right side. Everything works great, though more sound adjustability would be nice.

Also I just wanted to add for future clarification, this is the adapter part number I used 20 to 28 pin adapter PT546-00120-CH

AUX Help

Hello all,
HELP - I have been trying to figure out how to connect the AUX to my HU for quite some time and well I am at a lost.
I got the HU 1819 in with Microphone/Bluetooth/USB/Ipod everything works, no worries - EXCEPT the AUX.
I put in the USB/AUX plug from a Scion ( same as a Tacoma ) into an empty dash slot ( by the way my rig is a 95 Fzj80 - love it )
Coming out of the Aux plug are 5 wires ( Yellow/Red/Brown/White/Green ), looking at connector diagrams I should connect those to pin 28/26/25 ( 28 pin connector ) right there it leaves me with an 2 extra wires.
as so:
Aux 0 ( color ? ) from the Aux plug to Aux 1 on the connector side ( 25 ? )
Aro ( color ? ) from Aux to Ari from connector ( 26 ? )
Alo ( color ? ) from Aux to Ali from connector ( 28 ? )
that is one many methods I got from threads.
Others state that one needs all 5 wires from Aux connected to have HU recognize input source as Aux.
by the way on the connector side the wires I believe to be correct are grouped together as White/Green/Red/Red with black line and perhaps this single Black one that is at pin 11 ( or so ).
Another thread mentioned connecting a resistor between pin 16-18.
I have done all the wire combinations I can think of - obviously I missed one.
I made certain the feed is coming in properly to the Aux...
Basically HELP.
Any thoughts, I really want to get this done - its the last thing.
Cheers
