The leather on my 99 LC steering wheel is getting eaten up by age and usage. Besides putting on a wheelskin leather cover does anyone know if another steering wheel will bolt right on (besides LX470)? Wondering if the Prado or 200 series steering wheels might work. I did do a search here and nothing came up.

I don't know the answer, however, I can tell you most newer vehicles use dual or multi-stage airbags vs the single stage type in your '99.

Ever think about getting your steering wheel professionally recovered? I think there is a community Mud steering wheel floating around somewhere to hold you over while its getting recovered, which takes about a week or so. I know I am going that route when I get the wood redone on mine.

hoser, I read that the 98+ LCs were all 2 stage, all previous years were single stage. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Steering wheel option...

I personally would like to get the ebay steering wheel one of these day when I have some extra cash.

I went with the ebay steering wheel and love it.

Crimsonaudio, I saw those on ebay before.....man that looks bada$$! I thought about that but I was wondering if another stock steering wheel fits on our LCs. I have a '91 MR2 and the newer celica & corolla s steering wheels fit those cars as an upgrade.

+1 on eBay wheel. I bought it and it was plug and play. Added at least an additional $1k in value instantly. :) Suggest the piano black with sport grip. The leather is dimpled gray and actually matches the door trim well.

How hard or easy was the instal?
10 min. 1 banana.
  • Disconnect battery.
  • Remove plastic access 'doors' on left and right side of wheel to expose bolts. Pry off w trim tool or flat head.
  • Remove both bolts on wheel (Torx)
  • Tilt airbag down toward your lap
  • Remove red and yellow airbag connections
  • Remove center wheel nut and pull wheel off spindle. Don't knock yourself out. Mine came off easy. May want to make note of position.
  • Remove stalks and other connections from wheel
  • Replace all connections to new wheel
  • Reverse process
  • Enjoy

Anyone know if LC & LX steering wheels and shifter nob can be swapped?

Thanks @bamabrock.

I wrote that poorly, what I should have asked "are they interchangeable?" I like the look of the wood steering wheel and shifter nob of the LX. Wondering if I could swap the LX into the LC?.

I will venture, "yes". Because we in the EU never got the LX, we have high-spec LC. My LC has wood knob and steering wheel, my first comment when I looked at in (compared to my older previous LC) was, "this interior is typical Lexus"....

Also, this one fits obth LC and LX: * Steering Wheel Wood Grain Leather Grip For Toyota Land Cruiser 100 Lexus LX470

Anyone have any input why just about every eBay steering wheel is Righthanddrive? And will it fit a lefthanddrive?
