Nolan,
From where did you order the tubes and flaps? Don't see the company name in the attached picture... I have a set of 5 splits holding up the wife's '74 while it is being resurrected from a long nap in the pasture. They currently have 7.50x16 bias mud grips which I think means they have bias style tubes which won't work with radial tires... I'm planning to swap out to 265/75/16 radials that I took off my DD suburban that were at least made in this century.
Thanks,
Will

Here is the stamp on the J17x 7.5 that came on old Tundras and fit 80s and 60s. I’m pretty sure they want about $200 for these from dealers. They are/were much more popular abroad but that’s going to cost even more unless you are a savvy importer. I don’t think they were very popular OEM but they are around. You can search (in 80 tech) for ‘poverty packin 80’ for some nice shots of these wheels mounted on @bottombracket ’s completely awesome ride. Mine are still in the shop

Mine are only 17x 6.5. I thought Joe said they came from a Hilux. A 7.5 rim would be a real bonus because it would be much easier to convince tire shops to mount wider tires!

Machine shop charged me $25 per wheel.

Time for paint. This is my go-to OEM wheels color to match 69 and up OEM steelies and splits

Clean em and line em up

Front side done with 2-3 coats with one can. I plan on doing the insides as well. Just need more paint

Do you have any particular way you prep those wheels or OEM steelies before spraying? I read an old post about scrubbing with maroon scotchbrite and dish soap & water, let dry, wipe with lacquer thinner, dry, then apply first coat.

Man you gotta know me better than that.

I make sure they are clean and paint em. Sure that is likely not as good as what you say.

Got my 255’s on today. I’ll update the Yokahama and Tall skinny thread thread with the specs.

Since this is the wheel thread I’ll focus on that.

The wheels balanced up “ok”. Not near as good as the City Racer 16’s. They are balanced but with about 2x more weight.

Also, my machinist missed center on one wheel and it’s pretty wobbly. It’s on the spare.

Overall I’m happy with the $500 I have invested in them.

@wngrog I used Rustoleum Dark Machine Gray. They were very similar in most lighting, but Smoke Gray had just a little too much blue in it for me. The comparison shot in the grass was probably the most accurate picture I took.

@wngrog I know the black is a heavy duty primer. Do you ever clear coat or paint the back for extra protection when you paint the front? Just wondering if the insides of my wheels are going to look like s*** in a year if I leave them as-is.
