That axle lasted 10 years of 35" tire abuse and 25 years previous to me. It went through 2 engines and its second truck. I gotta give it to the Japanese. Tough stuff !!!!

I guessing the kilometers were around 750,xxx on the axle.

The 4.10 gears I have are from a 1972 FJ40, unknown mileage.

Still one of the coolest 60's on here.

Thanks for the compliments:) Coolest cruiser? HA! Maybe the most beat up road worthy cruiser.

First picture. My old welded up steering arms and tie rod. That were 4by tested for 8 years.

The new.... Trail gear high steer. I just took the measurements for the tie rods and they will be ready on monday. Unfortunately I cross threaded two studs, what a knob I am....DUH! Too much air impact for me. Studs and nutz to be replaced.

This setup is sick. Family hauling time. Right after I bleed the brakes. I will also change the pitman tierod lock nut for a castle nut and pin.

First camping trip of the year. May long weekend baby! Maybe ya'll Americans don't get that holiday but I hope you do?

As for the install... I took about 4 hours and $800 canadian of course... oh and six beers too. over two days. Pretty easy. 6/10

I had to get custom length tie rod/drag links made up.

tie rod was 43"
drag link was 35.5"

That leaves room for .5" of thread exposed on each end+jam nut.

I also bought the trail gear drop pit man arm because the bj60 stock pit man arm had a larger tapered hole than the tie rod end.

I got too excited and jumped the gun on drill/tapping grease fittings. But I will soon!

So I guess this is my story and build thread.... Soo I thought I would catch everybody up telling this part of my cruisers life. I floped her hard on her side doing about 70kms. Fixed what I could until I got an inspection and blew eventually snapped the crank shaft in half in the original engine.

So I bought a new brown cruiser with 455,xxx kms. Chopped the roof off and stole the engine. That cruiser cost $1000. I sold the bumbers, winch and tires fro a total of $650. So, $350 for a new roof and engine. My truck ain't perfect but it still goes pretty goes.

The spare cruiser. Yes that is the 4th brown bj60 I have cannibalized. I still have a 5th untouched sitting in the drive way :)

3.73 gears are a dime a dozen around these parts of the woods. I found 2x 3.73 with thirds for $50 each. people want 400 for a 4.10 third. F-that. Time to give this cruiser the gearing she deserves.

I rebuild some cruisers and wheel and deal parts but for cannibalizing cruisers I won't ever stop. I think I just contacted you on Pirate4x4 for 4.10 3rds. I din't know you were on ih8 too. As for recycled furnace oil, Its exactly what it is. I offer people to remove their old furnace oil tanks as long as theres some fuel in it. I filter it twice and pump it into my vehicles which are all diesels. cheers!

How many cruisers do you think you'll wreck before you stop? What is recycled furnace oil?
