Started to bring my 74 FJ40 back to life.

I slid the 3rd in this morning and ran the air tube and mounted the air compresser. I found a good use for the old oil pans skid plate. It will help deflect heat from the exhust and the indention will help drain water away.

"RECYCLE" That's awesome you found somewhere to use the skid.

I finished up the wiring for the arb switches and a few light switches. I tried to find a piece of black abs plastic but couldn't find it any where. So I bought a $6 black tool box and cut it up for a switch panel. The reverse light switch was cut off for the toybox and the po had a cut a hole in the dash for a switch so i cleaned it up amd put a arb style back up light switch.

Carling mounting panels at waytec wire are a great option for those areas

Thanks for the response. As far as the toybox goes, it's not out of the question, but I don't have your fab skills or a garage to perform them in - so bottom line, not in the immediate future. It's good to see the toybox being installed in a '40, as it adds to the knowledge base for such installs.

I love this thread & other "rebuild" threads like it! I get so many ideas and a ton of motivation seeing people actually jump into projects like this! Its great to see such effort go into keeping another one on the road!

Huge thumbs-up & be sure to keep us updated!

Last year at GSMTR we went out on a few night runs and I couldn't see anything I was carching on. I mounted 7 lights underneath to help with that.

tractor supply utility lights, I think they were 12.99 each and are a rubber housing. its plenty bright and im glad i got the 200 amp alternator now.

I got around to mounting my cb. I welded in a cross brace on the cage with some 1/4" flat bar then tapped the holes. I also threw on my family bikini top to protect the future owner. And last pic is the future owner

GSMTR Was another great event. I finally got to take my son out wheeling and he loved it. He would cry when we had to stop for obstacles because he wanted to keep going. It was also the first time my wife had been wheeling in the 40 since 2004. She is ready for another trip.
I had a few things break but over all it did awesome. I ended up breaking both my rear tail lights, pass rear marker light, and the shock mount that I cut for clearance for the steering box. I also had to trim the front of the front fenders to keep from cutting up the tires.
In the videos below you can hear my fan catching the shroud. Last year I broke a motor mount and my shroud got a couple little dents in it around the fan opening. It would only catch if the truck was flexing. The fan finally did a self clearance and was quiet the rest of the trip.

Now on to the next upgrade. I ordered ford shock towers today and those should be in next week sometime. I am going to put a cat on the exhaust. Now that the little man is going to be riding with me more. hopefully it will keep the smell down. The next big thing is getting a better approach angle. When I mounted the steering box it put it pretty far forward and I can move the front axle up 5". I dont know which way I want to go. Either flip the springs, or redrill both the springs and spring perch.

just finished the ford shock towers and put on a set of bilstein 5150s. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the driver side shock mount and shock.
