I also added a small 1/2" piece of angle iron to the bottom of the rocker panels for some extra support. There is about 1/4" between the top of the sliders and the rockers.

It protects the antique warn belleview. 
It adds support for the radiator hoop and in some cases keeps you from doing an endo. The main purpose for me is to protect the radiator in a roll. That way you can still drive home should a roll happen.
