Thanks Radman,

Do you think from his comments since the support tube and by-pass valve are in there I am safe?

I used a TRD performance filter, I guess the dirty oil flows on the outside of the filter and is sucked inward toward to the tube and back into the engine cleaned?

Not sure if the area/ inlet at the bottom of the filter would be larger with the spring in place. Thus allowing better, less restricted oil flow?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, I think the purpose of the spring is to push the tube up and create the lower seal on the oil filter. Each side of the filter has an o-ring, so the spring keeps pressure on those guys. You probably just have a little oil bypassing at those orings and not getting filtered.

Then I read Jowett's webpage and found the 4th sentence, " the factory spring valve is eliminated"... I did not read it correctly, I guess confusing...

I’m pretty sure the eliminated factory spring valve is referencing the little plastic drain piece that you can stick into the stock housing to drain it

Thanks Radman,

So if the oil is brand new Mobile 1 and I always add a can of B G MOA (motor oil additive).

If a little oil is bypassing do you think it's good enough for 3,000 miles or so?

Thanks for your help, I owe you a beer if we cross track at some Land Cruiser event.

I’m not sure about rolling with it for 3k miles, maybe someone else can chime in about that; however, you can open the drain on the jowett and then unscrew it without draining the entire oil pan. You’ll only lose what’s in the jowett. also, if you really want to salvage what’s in there, you can drain it into a clean container and then put it back in the engine (personally, I would probably add a new quart).
So all that to say: should be an easy 30 min fix by draining the jowett and putting the spring in.

Does the iPhone 12 PRO MAX at 6.7" fit in the iPhone charging tray and charge correctly there?

I measured it only the mini fits in where you can close the door.

Thanks radman,

I did hear back from Jowett here is what he said:

"Hello Jeff. You will be fine until the next oil change. The spring gives a little wiggle room for the filter manufacturers. Apologies for the lack of instructions."

I will probably do the partial drain and fill like you suggested, but at least I know for now the oil flow itself is not being restricted or compromised and no possible damage.

Thanks again!!!

Do you need to do anything after doing a 5 tire rotation to tell the car where the tires are now?

On a 2019, no. Not sure for the models earlier than '16.
No the 2008-2015 at least doesn’t know which sensor goes to which location. I can tell the spare after driving a bit because the pressure will be different than the other tires

Not sure this answers the question at all, but Techstream lets you say which position a particular sensor is in when you register them. I can't speak to whether the vehicle dynamically keeps track of the locations.

You’d have to reprogram each time you rotate the tires. Sensor ID ties to the position in the MID, not the position on the vehicle. I don’t know why it doesn’t, since my ‘08 Acura could do it. Annoying

Not sure if this is still an open question, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max does fit (with the door open) and will charge in the slot. However, I never use that charging slot because an iPhone gets HOT in there.

Ok, so I think I have this answered. After you rotate on a 2019 you want to re-initialize the tire pressure warning system and then the tires will register in the proper locations.

Yes. Was true for my 2017, haven't got enough miles on the 2020 to need to rotate yet.

My 2020 Owners Manual broke the rotation info into two places in section 6.3 (pages 479 and 482).

Page 479 has:
The tire pressure warning system must be initialized in the following circumstances:
When rotating the tires.

And page 482 has
When rotating the tires
Make sure that the engine switch is off. If the tires are rotated while the engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode, the tire position information will not be updated."

Oddly, this seems to be different for different trucks even in the same year. I do a 5 tire rotation every 5000 and I’ve never re-initialized TPMS. I run 5psi over in the tire in the spare position so I always know the sensors updated the positions. I see others have stated they have to re-initialize TPMS on ‘16+ LCs. Don’t know what’s going on there.

I never re-initialized either. But that's what the books says - wouldn't be the first mistake ever written.

Anyone use an anti rattle hitch thingy? I got one like this

Amazon product ASIN B01IO2N44E
but can’t get it below the bottom of the hitch. I have an extender for my bike to clear the tire swing out. It does look a little agricultural though...

Thanks
I tried that same one, or one a heck of a lot like it and I couldn’t find a way to make it work.

I’ve found that some washers tapped into the gap, and some duct tape to keep them from flying off, works well.
