I'll volunteer my place if any of you guys from the Bay Area need a place to stretch your legs on the way up, or if we need a rally point. I'm right on the border of Nevada City and Grass Valley (off 49). I've got plenty of parking, and gas on the way.
There is also a dirt lot right behind the gas station close by that we could fit a bunch of rigs. Let me know if that works, or if you have other ideas.

Not a problem. What time you planning on leaving? From here, Gold Lake area is about 1.5 hours. It's closer than it seams (about 50 miles max), but 49 is a twisted road most of the way out of Nevada City.

Alright, I'm going to be making this trip after all!!! Plans were kind of up in the air for a while but everything is confirmed now!! I'll be coming with my GF and we'll be bringing mountain bikes and kayaks if I can get em up here from Pismo between now and then!

Where you at? I might be driving to Ventura County soon and be taking 101. I always stop at 4th st in Pismo for refuel and if I end up driving down I can pick them up for ya..
I plan to be on the road from Novato around 6 am. That would put me in your area around 8 am. As I recall, grass valley is a good place to gas up on the way.
There is a gas station on the way to my house, so you could fill up before or after, as well as grab ice if needed.

Nice! I went kayaking in Monterey the weekend before last and I've been thinking about how nice it would be to have one on this trip ever since! How much did you end up getting that one for?

I appreciate that! I've got to find out if they're even still there. If they are still down there they'd be in Shell Beach, near Alex's, but I may be having having second thoughts about bringing them anyways. My ARB roof rack "disappeared" during my divorce and I don't think I'll replace it before the trip. We'll see. I'll keep you posted but a huge thanks for being willing to do that!

Anywho, how's the fishing in these lakes? I can't imagine there's any fish at Snake Lake or Little Deer Lake - how about Gold Lake or Deer Lake? Packer Lake?They wanted $400 for it but I talked them down to $300 since the seat pads were a little ripped. The hull has the typical scapes and wear from use it but it's in pretty good shape overall. Here's the specs on it:

Gold lake, packer lake, sardine lake, volcano lake... the list goes on, they are all great fishing.
