Went on a hunt this morning to see one in person. Koons in Tysons has a few and Koons in Arlington has a couple. Parked my 4Runner next to one. It looks cooler than the 5G4R in my opinion, and I like this LC better than the new Lexus GX550 that I've seen parked in DC. I am happy I have the 4.0 V6 1GR in my 4R though. I know the dang thing will never have an issue and is easy to work on. The 1958 trim is not too expensive though at about $58k MSRP. Where the 5G 4R with a locker and KDSS was like $48k plus sliders, tires, skids... so pretty close in price.

The hybrid setup, and direct injectors location right above the valve cover, make this thing more difficult to work on than last gen US market Yota trucks. As far as I know, longterm reliability is unknown at this point. Premium Fuel only?- yikes. The other thing that is unideal is the tie rods look a bit smaller than you'd want (same as a 4R or previous GX- that's one thing that makes is a "light duty" LC). For international use as a PRADO, the spare tire is now underneath, as opposed to on the back, thus eliminating the ability to get an OEM aux fuel tank. So max is ~30 gallons instead of ~40. The international version gets a 1GD-FTV(A) 2.8 Turbo Diesel four-cylinder diesel, I believe with an available 48-volt mild hybrid system. Ultimately, I think it's not that different than all the IFS variations we've got from Toyota over the years. Body on frame, 4 doors, ~32" tires, 9" off the ground. Updated looks. If it proves to be reliable, this thing will be seen all over the world for the next 20+ years as a PRADO for gov work, NGOs, etc. Hard not to like it in my opinion - or at least to give it the benefit of the doubt until any evidence to the contrary on reliability.

And saw this piggy on my way from Blacksburg to MT Solon, all on back roads. Drove the GRC. :steer:

pretty much exactly how I feel

I guess what I'm getting at is when folks say they don't like the 250, what specifically did you think was better about the 150? Is it just fear of the hybrid system? Or do you guys really think the 150 looks better? Even with facelifts, I think the 150 was getting a bit long in the tooth. Prius, etc. ad infinitum has proven that Toyota can make reliable hybrids... and the pressure from EU and US government has understandably resulted in promoting more efficient drivetrains than large V8 engines. I don't know what you guys expect as a successor to the 150. I'm all ears for what you think would be better and why you think the 150 below looks better, or is better, etc. I'm all ears.

And spotted this white one at Tysons Koons with a dealer installed spacer lift and big offset wheels. I expect by Fall Crawl we'll see a few of these 250s in club events:

For me it's the disappointment of not getting the 300 series. And regarding the hybrid, let's see how it works in the bush. If they don't use a hybrid in this platform there, that tells you all you need to know.

Yeah- it kind of sounds like the one in the bush does have a mild hybrid setup though. Not exactly sure why. KISS is a much better idea for the bush.
Edit: looks like they add hybrid to the turbo diesel only for Europe and Australia.

We at least get that 300 series as a LX but obviously not exactly the same thing. We also get hit on prices. I think a base 300 series LC is under $50k in Japan. Twice the cost for the Lexus version here.

I think your analysis in general is correct. I think it’s also a good example of how people react to refreshes and redesigns in general…and they typically end up coming around. People didn’t stop buying new m3/m4s when they made the grill massive. Body on frame, tire, big stuff is certainly retained.

For me it may be a bit of the power plant…killing the v8 and adding so much plastic and charging what they are is just such a far cry from what the 200 gave you value wise, and we’re not used to a prado here…so I think there’s some serious adjustment to prado build on an LC moniker.

However….

I was tagged in something randomly on instagram on Wednesday. My neighbors 60, our other neighbors 250 and my 200 in the back.

Seeing this actually makes me appreciate it differently. Lots of good 60 look to it. Bigger isn’t always better….if the power plant works out long term they’ll be here for a while.

Looks like you have cool neighbors

saw this yesterday at the Walmart off Compass Creek Parkway in Leesburg.... I parked in front of him and even waited around when I was done getting a few things for the weekend trip to the cabin but they never came back...

A 200 and a GX at Walmart?! Seems suspicious... You sure you weren't at Target or some boogie equivalent of Wally world?

Up in Laurel, MD while making a lunch trip to the dealership for a corolla axle nut and trans output shaft seal:

Olive (or tan?) First Edition, not prepped/stickered yet. Could do without the Wagoneer style upswept window line, but otherwise think it looks decent.

Looks like my old '77 Scout II with that upswept rear window.
