I'd be willing to bet that where I'm at there wont be many to go around

I'm with Ocelot!

The best part about the Car & Driver article was the comment about how Prius's have a waiting list and Honda hybrids not selling. The hybrid car is a environmental symbol that says "Look I care about the environment". Do they really? Just like Jeep TJ's have a symbol of youth, adventure, and spontaneity.

You don't have to just grow bio-diesel, there is a large amount waste vegetable oil that can be utilized. I like to see the numbers on the amount of WVO disposed of annually in the US and Canada.

Besides, most people on this board are 2nd or 3rd owners of Landcruiser's. Would you buy a vehicle that you cannot maintain yourself? Although, on the flip side any old school carb guy is scared of fuel injection.

Don't let the media fool you, there is no shortage of oil in the world! There's just too many politics surrounding the countries that sit on 75% of the world's supply. Just like diamonds are very common, but controled by the industy.

Edmunds.com reports: …there are no plans for a right-hand-drive version of the vehicle or a diesel version.

As mush as I want to purchase an FJ Cruiser, I’ll wait for a diesel version or (if Toyota doesn’t offer diesel as an option) I’ll buy one of their competitors diesel vehicles.

i vote for diesel-hybrid.
Diesel hybrid has some advantages and is doable.

Back in May, a group of High School kids already did this, and they averaged 107 MPG.

Here’s a link to the article: http://www.evworld.com/view.cfm?section=communique&newsid=8474

(Here’s the first paragraph from the article)
SYNOPSIS: Modified Honda Insight driven broke the 100-mile-per-gallon barrier over a 150-mile range in the National 2005 Tour de Sol.

Greenfield, MA - May 16, 2005 - A modified hybrid vehicle, a Honda Insight driven by Brian Hardegen of Pepperell, MA, has broken the 100-mile-per-gallon barrier over a 150-mile range in the National 2005 Tour de Sol held May 13-16 in Saratoga Springs and Albany, NY. A student team from West Philadelphia High School in Philadelphia, PA, has taken top honors with its purpose-built hybrid vehicle, which uses biodiesel instead of gasoline and produces 77% less climate-change emissions compared to a conventional gas car.

Car and Drivel

Alright guys, enough with the Diesel v. Hybrid crap...

If I wanted to re-read Brock Yates' rantings, I would.

C&D used to be so cool, so fun, so young. Grab an issue from the late '70's or early '80's, and THAT was a magazine to subscribe to. Today, if it isn't a Bimmer or a Honda, it doesn't stand a chance in any of their "subjective" analyses.

The old men who write there are constipated, angry buffoons. Spend your money on a quality rag, or donate to TLCA, MUD or somewhere where you moolah does some good.

And by the way, when the fogies moan about hybrids or Washington, remember, try to place into context of the North American automobile market what they are bleating on about. Typically, it is to try to benefit one or two interested parties, not the industry in general. Case in point is the HSD from Toyota...slam it, even though the majority of manufacturers in NA haven't presented ANY viable alternatives to the consumer. Slam Toyota Avalons and Lexus ES350's in comparison to BUICKS!!!! For whatever reason, C&D spends far more time offering up love to Honda and BMW, with those compromised vehicles not being worthy of mention outside the offices of the mag!

Back to thread: WOOT! I hope the special ed FJ Cruiser lives up to the name. (And here's to hoping for far greater performance from a smaller vehicle down the road...the NEXT great FJ!)

on the whole diesel front, people need to realise that its price will be going up quite a bit more rapidly than regular gasoline if people start to purchase more. YOu can only make a tiny fraction of diesel from a barrel of oil, roughly 10% give or take, and that ='s a shortage if there is a huge increase in vehicles running on it.

Your diesel vehicle might seem like a gas saving boon right now, but if the trend continues in North America, expect diesel prices to skyrocket, VERY quickly.

just think of it - a voodoo blue cruiser with a white rag top rolling on 33's with a locked rear end & ls front.......man, I could get a lot of groceries home in that baby!

There was an article in Automotive News a month or so ago that mentioned this special edition. Rumor has it that Toyota is considering calling it the Moab Edition and will come with a bunch of goodies.

Drop Top FJ, I'm prob selling the 100.

Anybody heard anything substantive on this special edition? Assuming it's the TRD version I read somewhere is due out in June. Just wonder what kind of (useful) goodies they might include other than what the article mentioned...some altitude and 33's would be nice...

Yes, I know there's no chance in hell of a SFA...okay, can't resist...they still produce SFA trucks for other markets, they're marketing this thing almost exclusively to offroad enthusiasts......sorry, I know this has been covered ad nauseum (unless continuing to gripe will get Toyota's attention for the future?) so I'll stop.

Cool truck, but I think I'm sticking with my 80.

best looking pic ive seen of it, that's a great color: assuming it's chopped?

Pretty sure that is a chop of the blue SEMA FJ Cruiser.

no doubt there will be cool stuff to look at and nice paint but apart from adding a front e-locker I can't see what useful offroad stuff they could offer that you can't get aftermarket likely cheaper and even there an arb air locker is pretty close. maybe a different torsion bar and longer arms to allow more lift but I highly doubt it.

Toyota does sell adustable shocks with a dash switch in other markets so possible an offroad suspension button?
