Source For Headliner?

Hmm...so really the headliner is more of a "last step" than a "first step"? The 76 I am picking up has a mess of a headliner. I guess I could go and ahead and rip it out and put some sound deadener in place until I am ready for paint and everything else. Anyone figure out what else (less than $300) is good to use?

Thanks TJ.

I have not...

Since I posted this I discovered that I need to pull windsheild and cargo windows and trim around door openings.

Windshield weatherstrip - available
Cargo window rubber - I have
Door opening trim - Looks like there are options listed in Weatherstrip Thread

From my perspective, once you pull windsheild, you should paint (esp when your roof looks like mine!)

Trying to figure out how to line up glass, paint and interior services at the same time/place!

Where did you get your cargo window rubber? I just ordered my headliner and door WS from SOR. I needed enough stuff that I bought there SOR member thingy and the discount on the parts paid for it. I'm trying to figure out the best order to do things in too. Kinda like a puzzle..:bang:

If you are referring to the type of material for the head liner, I was thinking about "top gun" Top Gun: The Ultimate Marine Cover Fabric but Im not a seamstress or upholsterer...
This is the same material that was used on my RTT cover I had made, A local shop charged me $150.00 for material and sewing it all together.
Good luck

EDIT...
here is a pick of my RTT cover finished

I'm curious how to treat the roof also.

On the cargo rubber, PVCruiser used to make it... but he sold all his stock to Cabe Toyota.

Their ad in Toyota trails says $220 for the pair. They also have the upper tailgate glass rubber for $220 ;) I purchased a set mid last year;)

Their number is 1-877-803-2223... make sure you ask for the Cruiser expert when you call. Otherwise when you say "cargo rubber for an FJ55", they will give you that long pregnant pause of WTF:lol:

I do not want to get pregnant working on my 55...

Sound Deadener

I used a product called eDead. Here is a link. Elemental Designs
They recommend this eDead 80 or a brush on product for the roof. I used this eDead 80 all over the inside of Sherman Tank, though I haven't had the courage to take down the headliner yet.
It came recommended from a high end stereo installer and I have been very satisfied with it.
Make sure you buy a small roller to help installation.
This stuff is only $2 a foot compared to Dynamat at $10 a foot. I bought it on Amazon.com at the same price as the website (I think shipping was cheaper).

I have one of those early pigs, so after 31 years the rubber is too cracked to reuse. I did the SOR headliner without pulling glass. It came out crappy; actually I gave up half way and just finished it up.

The cargo glass has to be removed to do that area right (unless you have those fancy screw on strips), but the windshield does not have to be removed. If the the headliner is tensioned properly by the door weatherstrip, then there is only one segment that is tensioned by the windshield rubber. Just tucking it under with some adhesive is enough to get it tight. That's the only part of my headliner that looked good. Since then I've flopped it twice and had the window pop out, so now it is tucked under the rubber properly.

I'd like to see other do it yourself options, beside the standard headliner with metal bows. Stock headliner gets dirty too easy and is hard to clean.

Chris (Frontrange4x4) used eDead on the firewall and floor of his 69 Cruiser...and I think it works nicely!
