So, I may be starting her off a bit early... at 13, but had a great day teaching my daughter to drive today in a local EMPTY parking lot, and her first drive was in SORF.

We got through starting, stopping, shifting up to 3rd gear, some reverse. Only chirped the tires once on her first startup, and only one stall when she forgot to pull out of gear when we stopped.

Certainly a great time for me, and probably a real memory builder for her. She did great!

I learned to drive in a VW Bus in Feb in Anchorage... never have forgotten it and hope she doesn't forget today either.

Congratulations. Melissa is only 13 now and she was 8 when she got to drive my FJ40 on a few of the easy sections on Trail 4. Teaching my olders daughters to drive convinced me that they needed early exposure to driving which is what prompted me to start early with Melissa.

We discussed left foot braking a bit... for next time :D Didn't need too much in the parking lot.

Agree, early is definitely better and glad I got her out there.

That's cool Steen, we're doing the same thing here.

A few careful passes on the empty beaches around Hatteras and have recently upgraded to solo trips around the lot after the football game tailgating has ended.

Good stuff.

Scott's first drive was on Daytona Beach. We were on vacation driving down the beach, and he asked if we were going to do anything fun. I stopped, got out and said... drive. He was 12 at the time. Hope he never forgot that.

That's awesome. I'm sure he remembers that for sure.
