Sold my 100, bought 200... now facing two severe issues?

Keeps us posted. No lexus dealerships in my area would do a flush or even drain and fill. The toyota dealerships were willing to do a transmission fluid exchange/flush using BG system.

I am guessing it is your fluid. On the honda side of the world the shudder was common due to the transmission fluid. Their tsb was to complete a drain and fill 3 times then a software update. Honda researched the torque convertor replacement and figured out that the fluid was breaking down. The 3 drain and fills and software update fixed the issue for our mdx.

Update: Went to Toyota, as technician drove the cr to the bay he noticed 'BAD CONVERTER SHUDDER' and they refused to do the fluid exchange without me signing a document stating it may permanently damage the transmission.

I called the Lexus dealer that diagnosed the need for a new transmission and they also said they won't do the fluid; only the replacement transmission.

Trying to get in at a local transmission shop, and I purchased 15 quarts of WS fluid to take to them. Pretty frustrating morning, filled with wasting time. I'm really over this truck. I didn't buy a Lexus (Toyota) to have issues like this.

I think the previous Kwok Kar May have not do the flush properly. Are you able to do it yourself? It is actually not that hard if you have the tool. Or just sign the waiver at Toyota and let them do it. You have nothing to lose?

Although frustrating, I can understand Toyota wanting you to acknowledge in writing a flush/exchange may not fix it. They don't want you coming back at them claiming they ruined a transmission that is already acting up. If the local trans shop balks too, just take it to Toyota, sign the waiver and have them do the full monty on the transmission (so to speak). I remain hopeful, but emphasize with your thoughts about being "over" that truck.

Man, you can’t catch a break :bang:

The dealerships are only protecting themselves so nothing to fear there. Verify that it has the right fill, and to the right fill-level is the right first step. Just need to get a competent shop/mechanic to work on it that is aware of the fill procedure. It's different but not really that hard, as is common to many newer cars.

Hypothetically, if it were the transmission or torque converter at fault, there's many reasonable ways forward. Dropping a transmission out of a car is not hard actually. These trannies can be found all day long in as they are also used in Tundras and Sequoia's. So many independents are familiar and can work on these. If you were to need to replace the whole thing, they can be had reasonably. Search here - Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

Have you spoken at length with the selling dealership? I'd be parking the car at a Lexus dealer and not moving it until you have arranged something with the selling dealership. It's a very long story, but I had something somewhat similar happen with an Audi S4 I bought out of state and had shipped. Within 4 hours of taking delivery from the transporter, I had a complete and catastrophic brake failure. It was towed to an Audi dealer and sat there for nearly a month before I was able to pick it up, but I had to do it that way to protect myself and not get bent over fixing a problem that shouldn't have been mine. I'd suggest not driving it, not working, not doing anything until you've exhausted all avenues of getting the seller to take some responsibility.

Here's the fluid procedure per the Toyota docs for your 2013 LX. Note that Toyota/Lexus wants you to drain the pan, then refill it. If you do that you're really just diluting the old fluid and not getting it all out. The best way to ensure you've swapped all the fluid is to detach the transmission cooler line at the radiator, run the output into a bucket, and run the input into a fresh gallon of Toyota ATF WS. I think that's what the BG flush does but I'm not positive. The goal is to end up pumping out the old stuff and sucking in the new stuff with that procedure. The important thing is to stop before the new fluid container is empty so you don't introduce air into the system as you're doing it.

Hey all- my intention was not to ignore you but I did not want to write anything while communicating with the selling dealership. I believe we have reached an agreement and as soon as said agreement is executed; I will update you all with the resolution. Thank you so much in the meantime for all the advice, guidance, and counsel you have chimed in with. MUD is indeed a rarity. -HGB.

Alright guys. The check has cleared and the money has all been returned but the cost of shipping the vehicle and all diagnostic work I had done while the vehicle was in my possession. I am now free and clear of this problem laden car. I will try and find the vin to post so you guys can beware. The dealer is planning to send it to auction. I left the service record in the glovebox that shows a new transmission is recommended by both Lexus and Toyota dealerships to deter anyone should they dive into it. I'm back in the hunt for a white 2008-2014 LX or a black 2013+ LX.

So glad you gotta this sort out!!!

Thank you Ranma! I also know it was a fluke deal so I'm not deterred from buying another. I just can't wait to get into a nice one. I am dallying a manual, convertible e30 and I need something comfortable and with heat for the winter!

I am SHOCKED to see this car show back up in my auto trader search as I continue my LX 200 search....

Used 2013 Lexus LX 570 4WD

This is the car that needs a new transmission. I paid $30,215 OTD. I strongly suggest anyone interested stay FAR away from it. The car leaks water and has other stability/suspension issues. It doesn't drive right. I've driven a few 200's and none felt like this one. Buyer beware....

The dealership knows of these issues and to attempt to sell it to the public is ridiculous. I lost out on shipping cost and all the diagnostic work I had done. That doesn't even mention my time...infuriating.

The level of deceit on these vehicles is unbelievable. I just left a wholesaler in Houston who told me his 2013 L C was in mint condition, bought it wholesale from west side Lexus. Car had 70 k on it. When I took the car to be inspected my guy shows me a scratch on the left rear where the fender well had been creased. The owner of the dealer knew it was there and I suspect he thought it would not be noticed.

I begged these guys to not waste my time on Friday when I put a deposit down subject to inspection.

All I can say is do your homework.

Wow. That's ridiculous. Do they think you will be hooked once you commit to an inspection and throw out your standards? Save us both the time and represent your vehicle in an honest light. I'm missing my 100 series right now.

Lol. I’m not sure. I looked the guy right in the eye and explained that I have been looking for a year and that I have had three on the rack, all of which failed inspection, and if there were any issues I would find them.

HGB, your story just motivated me to comment. You are about the 10th (likely more) person I've heard/read about that has been totally screwed by purchasing a vehicle without a LOOONG test drive. With all the money that LC has cost you, I'm pretty convinced that you've learned that lesson well.

When I drive a used vehicle, I have a 30+ mile test drive loop that I drive with city streets, freeway, and winding country roads. I feel that anything less than that 30 mile loop just isn't a test drive. I had to drive 160 miles to look at my '83 pickup, but I wound up buying it, as there were none locally. It actually made it home OK, just took longer. Many thousands of dollars later, it's almost a new truck again.

I realize it may be a pain to travel to some distant city for a test drive, but look what happens when you don't do that?
