Its longer cause its based off the 130 wheelbase. The frame has to be lengthened. It would take a scarp pig to fill in the rest. The bed is actually made from the same FJ55 , and the rear doors being modified with the lower rear of front doors. The rear corner windows come from 40 series. The tires shown are suppoused to be 35's with one heck of a lift. Being it is based off the Rover Defender 130 crewcab.

So it isnt meant to be a rockcrawler. Very doable in my opinion. I did shave off a few inches from the wheel base in the photo... this might be closer to 130 then what I had there... the one above might be more like 145. Does this look better?

Yer gettin there, but where on a 40 are you going to find that much straight sheet metal??

I've been toying with the idea of a dualcab utility 55, perhaps a future project.
here's a photochop of mine

Bushboy, that is sweet. Minipigg, your chops are miles better than mine! I'm hoping someone with mad skills will do us the favor and chop us the dream FJ-55 Doublecab Ute' with canback, rack, and tires : ) I was in southern Zambia for 4 months, drove a Toyota "raider" model single cab hilux, long bed, petrol, solida axle, model year 94' for my research project. Excellent place to visit. I aonce drove from southern Belize to northern KY, also spent some time in Chile. Hopefully we can cultivate the idea further, the idea you threw out there about a tanscontinental pig run. It would be great (although not entirely a new idea) to ship cruisers to Puerta Arenas and drive north to Alaska.. a la the epic Tubby Explorer in TT but do it in 55's. It would be even better to do the drive and go directly into Alaska Cruiser Trek 2008 : )

hmm.. what happened to me post.....?

Oh well... I will try to regurge it...

Bushboy... That conversions been out there and done many times. To my own eye it looks very very odd. Even thought Land Cruisers are my main love... I have an eye for old Land Rovers too. I prefer the 109 and 110 4door safariwagons. We just about bought one 3 years ago. I also would love to own a Rover D-130 Doublecab truck. Serious One over on the pirate board has already taken the task of converting a singlecab truck to a 130 doublecab.

Ive spoken with him when he was doing the conversion. But if I did do this with a rover I would end up using different axles, different engine, transmission, tcase.. etc... And the added expense of buying more rover sheet metal... Might as well do it in a Cruiser then I wouldnt have the need to swap out the drivetrain (unless I chose to). Plus I think it has a better coolness factor using an FJ55. I mean ever since we bought our first FJ55 and to this present time we still get the same "What in the living Hell are you driving?" look, and the "Jim that thing is going to ram us!" look. People always think its cool... idiots with small egos always are trying to show us how truff and street fast there listed chevy, ford, dodge 4x4's are by burning rubber and then cutting infront of us. We just smile and wave. But I could only imagine people seeing this as a 130 doublecab. I mean some have seen an FJ55... but no one around here can say they have seen an FJ55-130 Doublecab and have it look factory stock. For me it would fulfill the dream, the family, long distance trips, hauling crap, and the much disired Expedition rig. So it would serve a much needed multipurpose. I would own an FJ55VL and my homemade factory looking FJ55-130 Doublecab.

Have you seen this one?
six-wheel_fj55.jpg

Yes... I spoke with that company in AUS asking them how they did the 6x6 conversion and if they had a kit. At the time it was the only FJ55 doublecab truck with a 6x6 conversion. They put in a different drivetrain ... and I think they used a chevy engine.... later the guy contacted me asking if I wanted first dibs on buying it... 25,000... not sure if that was AUD of USD. Cant remeber what the company was called. Oh and he sent me a bunch of photo's too... I think I sent them to Morgan... but that was like 7 years ago I think. But here is his website:

Real nice person to talk with. Answered all my questions. If I remember right they were going to a different setup (coils)

I have larger pics. Just not able to post them. I can email them to you if that would work. I have the last pic as wallpaper on my mac.... the more I see it the more I like. This might be something I seriously might do if I can find a good donor pig to begin with.

Ok some of you might recognize the Pig.... I spent two hours working on this one. I had to downsize it inorder to post. But the fullsize version looks pretty sweet.

Upon further review I've decided that I dont really like the look of it. Its a cool idea but it just look to long to me and doesnt seem to flow anymore.

This concept makes me want a Pig really bad. The only asthetic issue I have, is the rear doors look a too "stubby", but not by much. I really like the Fj40 curved rear corner window touch. It adds alot to the concept. I have been racking my brain about how I would "do" a Pig, and this concept is very close to the mark!

Yeah I agree the door does look to stubby, fixing that might help with the issue of it look disproportionately long.

I had done the same photochop a while back but with out the 40 windows. I really like the way this looks. The main reason I was thinking of doing this was for a tow rig.
Turn it into a truck and use the drive train from a cheby 3500. Then tow around my 40. To great places like CM07. Yes 07

*edit*
I had also considerd finding a simaler wheel well from a Ford in order to run a duly in the rear.

I wouldnt use a GM/Ford/Dodge drivetrain or frame. If I went thru the trouble of converting another frame and drivetrain to this concept truck it would be with an 80 series. That way I would keep it Land Cruiser.

Ok I moved the door jam back more towards the rear window. And as you can see I painted it blue. I'm getting better at this chop/paste/color but it still looks like someone with better skills should clean it up.

I'm still not feeling it. Not sure if its the extended wheelbase or the length or a little of both.

instead of the bed in the back make it a flat bed. roll that up and smoke it for a while.....

I have a Rover 130 and if you could pull it off with a Yota I think you will be very happy. It is a great compramise between form and function. You can carry a bunch of stuff and still load the family up. Here is a pic of mine on a recent trip.
