CoChef, you may of made a poor choice of people to argue meat with. Just a hunch.

luckily i cant say that you are "wrong" due to the shear fact that food is a matter of opinion, but really depth and variety of flavor, quality of beef, and over all health value grass fed is far superior. I would take a grass fed over grain any day and guarantee that side by side with a similar cut grass fed would win hands down. i used to serve nothing but grain fed, until I actually started working with grass. sorry, im going to have to say that you are, in fact, wrong.

you're right, i'm wrong.....

ok, i cant bite my tongue...

there is no way in hell that a grass fed beef animal is better than a grain fed animal. Grass fed animals are cheap and typically poor quality. There are reasons why the most expensive beef in the world are grain fed and is because it preforms better, taste better and is much more tender.

There is only one red meat animal that benefits from a grass fed diet and that is lamb, but still finishing them off on grain makes them have a much better flavor. The only reason is that lamb fat is the purest fat in all red meat animals and typically not effected by a grain diet.....but cattle is much much different.

Bottomline, fat makes everything taste better and inter-muscular fat (marbling) makes the meat more tender by breaking up the protein chains within the meat. Grass fed cannot do that....it is "healthier" because there is less fat and as a reslut less flavor and tougher.

you go eat your grass fed beef and leave the grain fed animals to us men........to eat

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Everyone knows clubbed baby seal is better than all this grass/grain s***...............

Grass fed animals are cheap and typically poor quality.entirely not true, There are reasons why the most expensive beef in the world are grain fed and is because it preforms better, taste better and is much more tender. and because the beef industry wants to keep selling is factory produced beef. grass fed is predominantly smaller more localized farming. not large subsidized factory farms

Bottomline, fat makes everything taste better and inter-muscular fat (marbling) makes the meat more tender by breaking up the protein chains within the meat. Grass fed cannot do that....it is "healthier" because there is less fat and as a reslut less flavor and tougher. the meat is tougher due to the fact that most dont know how to cook the meat plain and simple. a peice of leather can be made fork tender if cooked properly. Bison has much less fat than beef, yet has a more complex flavor, as does most game. so where does this magical fat free flavor come from? Grass fed beef has a "gamier" taste than grain fed.

But what do I know about anything my post count is too low and Im not in the chat clique so I must not know anything. but you do make a complling argument. I might just change my mind. I'll go back to using grain fed again, I can save a few bucks a pound.
but like i said before... food is 100% opinion.
and I love veal and foie gras... the anti vegan diet.

the sorrow is what makes it taste good.

There is a difference between production raised beef and grain fed beef animals. You're right about some grass fed animals being more money but that is because the animals have to be kept in the pasture long so they put on a little fat, however the fat is only back fat not intermuscular fat. The other reason why grass fed animals cost more is because it is not a sustainable production unless you either pay more for it or the animals are able to put fat on quicker.....it;s all about the meat to fed ratios.

dont get me wrong, there is some s***ty grain fed beef as well, but for the most part grass fed beef is discounted due to the lack of the integrity and quality of the beef....

ok, i finally read all your s*** in red...

tenderness is due to the following

1. breed of animal - double muscle animals will always be tougher (European breeds)
2. Marbling - the more the marbling the shorter the protein strains therefore more tender beef
3. aging - probably one of the most important in tenderness. you want meat to be just about to be on the brink of turning. If so it will be the most tender - enzymes break down the meat down further and make it tender.

if you take all of the above you will have a great quality steak, if you remove one of the aspects the grade of meat goes down considerable. for instance. Take away the marbling...Fact, Marbling gives it flavor and tenderness.......Fact, grass fed beef does not marble nearly as well as grain fed.

the only thing you can control with grass fed beef is the breed of the animal and how much you age it.......the rest is up to nature.

Fxxx nature, especially when i can guarantee you a perfect steak
