I ordered one of these (Smittybuilt) for my fj62. With the back of the console aligned with the heater, the cupholder comes half way up the shifter base. So with the auto tranny, it is a no go as it is. I liked the rest of the console enough that I cut off the cupholder to get it to fit. It came off pretty clean, but is going to need some paint. I think I'll paint it brown to match my interior. I removed the plastic piece from the old console that accomodates the rear heater temp control and modified the rear of the new console to accept the piece from the old console. It looks good and allows the console to sit cleanly on top of the heater with the temp control in the same position as the original console.

This looks like a great alternative to the Tuffy.

Thanks for the comments on the 62 install. I assume you had to cut a hole in the rear panel to accept the heater business.

I would really like to keep cup holders. Anyone know if the 22" would work as well and resolve the interference issue? I'm also thinking about swapping in a manual on the 62. I assume the shift lever is in the same position as the gear selector on the auto. Any gotchas with respect to a console?

We need pics of this please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sweeeeeet!

That is a cool set up w/out losing an arm and a leg:D.

Has anyone put this console in an 40? I have a TUFFY in my 40 right now, without the stereo din, and would like to put that in my 62, and the smitty built in the 40.

The Smitty looks real similar to my Tuffy....very close, and it looks like the pad is thicker.

It's too bad the Coke Machine isn't older, we had a 50's model that still worked but it was the one with the glass door that opens to expose "pull-out" Long Neck bottles. Perfect for brewski's

although it looks like your set up to deliver 12oz. cans! (of any flavor adult beverage)

It was my project last summer and it turned out great. It was too cheap to pass up...

I did, it worked fine with the stock buckets in my 74 and later when I pulled them and replaced them with corbeau buckets. They actually sell an adaptor bracket for it to fit the floor of the FJ40.

I got the version without the radio box in it but it does have cup holders. I just couldn't see paying more than twice as much for a Tuffy.

Do you know what the actual manufacturer's part number on the smitty that you installed was?

So are you saying that you used the stock mounting brackets that are attached to the fllor of the cruiser? the Crossovers for my fron separates are underneath my stock console so I would prefer not to have to relocate them and or cut off the existing bracktes.

For the 60, I kept the stock console brackets and just drilled holes in the console so the bolts would match up.

For the 62, maybe slcfj62 will chime in
