Well, I'm not worried about what my wheels look like from scraping rocks, I'm trying to not damage the bead and blow a tire off, or get the spokes caught up on sharp rock edges and hanging me up.
The bottom picture is just a tube version of the future Slee rear bumper or trail tailor rear that Tony had done. I think both those bumpers are real, beat it hard, designs to protect that lower area. If you look on my FJ from that video, I have a steel rear also. But the kicker, for me, is to get the whole truck away from what I just went around. I am probably not sitting on flat ground, so just because the bumper might be protected, the quarter panel and tail light area could still get hit, because the truck is off camber.
The picture of the slider, I don't like because of the amount of deflection that can happen from the fact that the support is still down on the frame. Plus with a normal kicker, you are already keeping rocks and trees away.
We all have our own style of driving, mine is not the right answer, it just work for me. I can only give my opinion (which isn't better than anyone else's of strength of products. The kicker got brought up because BudBuilt can do it a slider with or without it, for your personal wheeling style. He make everything in house, versus having a local machine shop make things in bulk. Not saying any 200 vendors do that, that is from my Jeep side of the house.
I think what is left is to test, @Mogwai you want to run the Rubicon with me in 200s? @Markuson and I have been talking about it for next year when we get our armor done. @Willy beamin, @TonyP, you guys want to see if we can put something together?
