I just placed an order for the Skyjacker. 4 springs, 4 shocks $334 total. I'll order the castor correction bushings also. My LC has over 160K on the clock and I like to load it up with heavy friends and tour the river above our cabin. We spend alot of time on the bump stops in the current configuration. Once installed and tested, I will give my 2 cents.

I look forward to reading your results, subscription added!

where did you find a kit with 4 shocks included? every kit I have seen only included the rear shocks.

Nice, it would help if you supplied the before and after hub center to fender flare measurements.

Ok, share the wealth...where did you find this kit? Inquiring minds would like to know...

Kit was shipped on Friday, should be here on Wednesday. Skyjacker site says 2.5" coils front and rear. Ordered from 4wheels parts and specified their nitro shocks. On Friday they were offering 10% off and free shipping. I'll take a photo of the kit when it arrives and post pics.

Kit Arrived

UPS just delivered the kit. The bad news is that the kit consists of 4 springs and front shocks only. I'm not sure if rear springs are stock height and front is going to ride high? or rear shocks will extend higher? Regardless, the good news is that I am going to install the kit and compare the before and after hub to fender measurements. At least we can determine whether this kit is worth the savings and compare final costs after any other parts not included with the kit are purchased.

The following description from 4 wheelparts seems a little vague; however, if I had bought it I would have thought it would have come with all 4 shocks and springs to give me a 2.5" lift just as though you did. Interested in how yours turns out with measurements, pics and 4wheelparts explanations and/or fixes with the rear shocks and rear springs.

I just installed my Skyjacker springs two days ago. Of course I forgot to measure before I installed. With the springs I am at 22 front and 23 rear. Then 23 and 24 with the one inch body lift. I have no experience with any other springs to compare them but the seem fine to me. I am sure they will be even better when I replace the factory shocks and the do the castor correction.

sounds like Slee's blue bushings will work real well for these springs as far as caster correction goes.

I would think the OME would be enough. That's only a 1.5-2" lift in reality. Stock numbers are just over 20" in front.

-roneyj, do you have any extra weight up front?

OME would be marginal at best. Every inch of lift caster drops by 1.74*. I figure he has around 1.5"-1.75" of lift which means his caster has dropped 2.61*-3.045*.

If he's buying bushings he might as well get the Slee's as they aren't going to be too much and will give him some room if he decides to add a small spacer to the front to level things out.

I found by experience that you can drive with at least positive caster .. 0.05 not the best but you can handle ..

I would take some measurements of my actual height .. but I'm right now 3.34 and 3.33 with Slee caster plates .. it means I was driving with negative caster for some weeks ..

The skyjacker lift is installed. Unfortunatley I got in a hurry and forgot to take measurements prior to lifting. The end result was 22.5 inches, center hub to fender all the way around. The ride is very good, not to harsh or stiff and similar to before. Handling is much too squirely for me, so next install will be castor correction bushings. I will try to get pictures posted ASAP.

I really didn't save much money when it comes down to it. I figure a got a free pair of rear shocks ($39 value) and I don't think they are great shocks. If I had it to do over again, I would go with OME. Skyjacker doesn't have the choices in spring selection or data needed for set up with extra weight. In the long run, this will cost me more money when I start adding bumpers and a winch. The lift is okay for someone who only wants a little extra height and accomadate larger tires. It actually isn't a lift kit. It's four springs for a totally stock 80. You are better off ordering four OME springs. I still have work to do to make my 80 handle correctly.

what about the downey kit

has anyone tried the downey off road kit? THe downey guy stated that they built the kit because they didn't like the OME kit. I would like to know what they didn't like about the OME kit. I have seen some guys having problems with the ome sagging after a while, Which was in the leaf springs, Has anyone seen any sagging in the coils?

They probably didn't like the OME kit because they weren't selling it. I used to road race and when you set up suspension on your motorcycle, very little of the cost is the parts that go into the shocks. You are paying for the many hours of testing that it takes to develop the correct set up. I think the R&D that you get from OME as well as all of the users on the site is well worth the cost of the product.
