Be careful with the Skyjacker lift "kits" - they are usually just a set of springs. If that is the case, it looks like MAF is cheaper on the springs:

you might also want to consider that by dealing with a vendor here like cruiseroutfitters or slee you can mix and match components to meet your needs better.

I've been searching for a lift kit myself and I came across the Skyjacker lift kit and still found that OME would be the best choice. My experience with working with cars is "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR". I'd rather spend the extra money on OME and make sure my rig would be ok, than to try to go cheap and have problems later on.

Those threads don't provide much objective information, mostly a bunch of bickering back and forth. I think OME is the way to go though, too much valuable information here in support of their products and not many that have ANY information on Skyjacker. That said, its your money and springs are pretty basic technology so they can't be that bad.

And you've got to know that I'm going to be partial to Downey's FJ80 coils, but we can't compete with E-bay prices. We originally built the Downeys because we didn't like the OME's, but they may have inproved the product by now?????

What did you do to make your springs better than OME?

It is my opinion that the Skyjacker springs are better than the OME springs. To the, "you get what you pay for" crowd, please tell me what can go wrong with a skyjacker coil spring that can't go wrong with an OME coil spring. They are freaking steel coil springs. The steel is probably the same. I'm fairly certain the only differences are price(skyjacker=less expensive, OME=more expensive), the color of the paint(skyjacker=red, OME=black), the spring rate, where they are made(skyjacker=USA, OME=?), and the warranty(skyjacker=lifetime, OME=2yr).

Be cool and buy OME. Everyone else is doing it.

Does anyone have a skyjcaker lift on a 80. just saw the lift on ebay for 295 plus shipping. It is cheaper than the OME and I was wondering if one is better than he other.

OME is more expensive because it come with 4 new shocks, a steering damper, and caster correction, as well as the springs. The necessity of these "extra" pieces can be debated until we're blue in the face, but personally, on a 10 year old truck with 10 year old stock OEM suspension, I'd rather replace it all with parts designed to work with together than just put in new springs.

YMMV. :grinpimp:

Have you run OME springs? If not, what info is your opinion based on?

So all coils are created equal???

Not even close... there are various different metallurgical techniques and practices that different spring manufactures employ to build thier springs. Shot-peening, hot rolled, colled rolled, progressive or linear winds, just to name a few. Not to mention the quality of the steel they begin with. By your same logic an Old Man Emu leaf spring is the same as a Skyjacker? BF Goodrich is the same as Goodyear?

I can assure you that OME and Skyjacker coils are NOT the same coil repainted, but why try and convince you... your mind was made up long before you researched anything ;)

Bingo... I'm not even going to comment on why shocks & dampers should be replaced with coils, I'd have to get the crayons out of that one :D

However, you can get 4 OME coils for ~$300, and have options to boot. I know very little about the Skyjacker 80 Series Coil offerings, but do they have 7 front and 8 rear coil options?? How can you assume every 80 needs the same static height and spring rate coils? A DD light loaded Cruiser can't possibly need the same coils as a overland built 80 topping in at 4 tons. :D

I compared OME to Skyjacker in my last post. I dod not compare All coils to skyjacker or all coils to ome. To further clarify I am speaking about the generic basic ome coil springs available for the landcruiser.

We know skyjacker and ome are not cold rolled so why even bring that up? We know neither are progressive. Do you know what steel is used to make the ome coils? Do you know the quality?

Rest assured that I know skyjacker and ome are not the same coil repainted. The skyjacker is less expensive, has a different spring rate, was made in the USA and comes with a lifetime warranty.

Skyjacker does not have options? They allow you to pick the method of castor correction and the shocks you want to run.

Who is assuming every wagon needs the same spring rate? Skyjacker offer one spring rate. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out if you want something else you can go somewhere else.

You are asking questions about OME springs that you cannot even answer about the Skyjacker springs:

Do you know what steel is used to make the Skyjacker coils?

Do you know the quality of said steel?

Do you know what process are used when winding the coils?

Do you know who winds the coils?

Do you know the design spring rate?

Do you know the design bar diameter?

Do you know the design free height?

The only objective evidence you have is price and colour:rolleyes:

As a matter of fact I do. If you want it call skyjacker.

I don't know anything about their springs but would be reluctant to take advice from someone who not only blatantly disregards meeting critical alignment specs post lift but also brags about it.

It would be nice if someone actually took the time to install the springs and properly set up the truck so others could get an accurate idea of how they perform.
